Devondrick Nealy
Any word on how he is doing? And if he would get some playing time this year? He seems like a good player.

Re: Devondrick Nealy
Still in HS. I would assume if he has play making ability as Shontrelle Johnson did, then yes he will find some time in the slot this year.

Re: Devondrick Nealy
I think there is no doubt he could contribute this year, but I really hope he RS to put a couple years between him and Shontrelle.

Re: Devondrick Nealy
I would hope we could RS him, but if he shows up and he's a guy that's just too explosive to keep on the sidelines, then so be it, get him out there.
I doubt if he could be out many of our RB's as a true freshman, but if he has big play potential I could easily see them putting him in the slot and getting him the ball any way possible.
Sure would be nice to get some separation in these classes, but at ISU we don't always have that luxury. If we need playmakers on the field, and Nealy is a playmaker, then you play him.

Re: Devondrick Nealy
I am thinking that we may be leaning towards redshirting Devondrick Nealy at this time. Unless, he would absolutely be an impact greater than the players we have on roster.
I feel really good about our RB's. Shontrelle should be solid. Woody is a great role player and short yardage option. James White making big improvement this spring according to Rhoads, makes me think that he will get a fair amount of touches this fall as well. And then add in Duck Hollis, who can fill Woody's spot if we want, while also being a back with the potential to be a starter. RB is the least concern IMO.

After all, if he doesn't redshirt, he would have a year available in case of injury. And if they redshirt both he and Standard, then there isn't any separation between the two of them--and perhaps not more than one with Barkley Hill. So 'm not sure if "separation" is an issue any longer. Play 'em as you get 'em, if they are ready to go.
A nice problem to have. But I think that if he is good enough, they'll find a place to play him. Remember, he expects to spend some time in the slot as well.

I almost wonder if Nealy might end up at corner to get on the field after all. However, it'll all sort itself out once August rolls around. "Hey! I'm building something here!"

Re: Devondrick Nealy
I still think Nealy is going to end up being a utility back. With the amount of running backs and their ages, I think his first shot at action will be in the slot catching passes. As for the redshirt-If he can contribute he will play. If he can't, he will redshirt. Right now, I would lean toward redshirting just because there are so many guys that could play those two positions.

Or so I have read. -
Re: Devondrick Nealy
Maybe we need to switch up and add another back in the backfield. Our best position is running back.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

I wonder if he ends up at corner as well. We have West for the slot right now, and then Lampkin the year after. We also have Standard in his class at RB, and then Hill (even though they play different roles). So the best way to get him on the field might be at CB. Maybe have him at CB and kick returner to atleast get him the ball a couple times. Wherever he does play he is a great talent, and its a good problem to have.
