Hey Fanatics,

Here's my recap from Saturday's spring game. There are notes on the quarterbacks, a slippery receiver, Money Reynolds, the defensive line and much more. Enjoy!

Dang, that's why I hate sitting low and near an endzone - I didn't think there were near that many sacks/TFL.

Chris, surely you must be forgetting Sean Keeler's awesome coverage where he talked about how much he wanted to leave. It was wonderful reporting.

Tiller looked the best throwing the ball. Since that is what I want my QB to be able to do first, I don't know how he isn't the favorite. I think Rhoads is trying to keep everyone motivated, but I am 95% sure that Tiller will be under center for us in September.

See I didn't think Tiller looked that good throwing it. His long bomb on the first play was underthrown and Money made the first play on a deep ball from an ISU WR that I have seen since Todd Blythe. (not an amazing adjustment, just the very act of making a play on the ball when it was in the air). I couldn't really see the TD Tiller threw in the corner of the endzone.

The throw Jantz made to Horne for the TD was the most impressive play of the day for me, but all the QBs looked pretty similar all in all.

Jantz' play was very impressive. He moving a little and still made that throw but the long touchdown Tiller threw to Money was damn impressive. Like CPR said, they all had their bright spots.

Chizik was asked (when he was here) what's the first thing he looks for in a QB, and he said mobility / escape-ability when in trouble. Last season CPR said something similar.

Were you at the game? How would you rate the four QBs in this area? Maybe all four are about the same?

In terms of accuracy, Jantz looked better than Tiller. Both had interceptions, but Tiller's came on a short slant route that a good QB should make. Jantz's was a bit of a prayer that he was hoping someone could make a play on. I agree Jantz's throw into the wind to Horne was probably the most impressive throw of the day. If Horne is gonna be a go-to guy, I would say Jantz would be the best choice just because of their familiarity of playing together previously.

I don't think Tiller had an interception. I don't remember it anyway.

I've got a couple or three observations from the cyclones.com video highlights of yesterday's football game. If anyone who attended is willing to correct these impressions, please do.

* Dutch in post-game remarks said this team is a hard-working blue collar team. Most here agree? CPR several days ago said a word that characterizes the O-Line is toughness (he gave Ethan Tuftee credit here). Saturday, CPR said both sides really got after it. Are we demonstrably stronger, faster, tougher than we were at this point in CPR's first spring here, anyone doubt that?

* Home page photo at cyclones.com, does Jeremiah George look like a linebacker stud while chasing Tiller? Kid's put together! JG had a fine stats game. Would someone characterize his quicks and speed?

* On A Horne's 50-yd TD catch, what the heck was AJ Klein, a linebacker, doing that far down field, covering a wideout?

* Watched the center position as best I could. Young Tom Farniok made no mistakes that I could see; curled and sealed well; once he pulled and was effective. Am I mistaken or did Jon Caspers (57) play quite a bit at center? Once, I think I saw #56 at center (Ben Loth, IIRC).

* Shontrelle post-game interview -- What a nice spoken kid, didn't supply cliched answers and was animated; nice analysis of what his unit did during spring ball and Saturday, too.

* LB-turned-DE Willie Scott had a really nice day. He's a smallish DE at this point in his young career; how physical does he look? A tough kid?

* Am I the only fan here who's got no horse in the QB race? I like 'em all, because each one is a hard-working dedicated Cyclone with certain talents.

I like Tiller quite a lot, 67 percent passing completion with an injured elbow on his passing arm on a windy day to boot. And, he's mobile.

Jantz, boy, he can elusively squirm out of trouble, and he's got "quick" speed. And, an arm, too. Considering he is not yet a master of the playbook, I'm not the least disappointed in his play yesterday.

Geez, I feel good about the quarterbacking on this team. My glass is half full and filling.

* How about the Aaron Horne-Jarvis West wideout "whammy?" Sure, rookie JW did nothing yesterday, but the coaches have said he's had a big spring. Donnie Jennert has had some nice receptions in videos from earlier in spring (6-foot-7), and TE Reid Branderhorst. . . . Some new guys who can maybe add some sparkle to a corps including a healthy Money, steady Josh Lenz, and Darius Darks.

Did Darks play yesterday?

* Am I wrong to think this team has more potential than any other Cyclone team since the 2005 squad? I say that because it appears to me (but I am no sort of schooled football observer) that this program is stepping upward; no stagnation here!
