I have said this a thousand times, but it bears repeating once again... whoever designed and agreed upon the plans for the Jacobsen building were complete idiots! Someone on here could probably tell me who designed and built this piece of crap to begin with? I don't care who it was, it was idiotic.
The way the Jacobsen building was designed, they basically destroyed any future idea of expanding that north endzone into anything else because NOTHING would fit in with that hideous building. Especially with the ridiculous roof design. I realize it was supposed to fit in with the architecture of Hilton and CY Stephens, but it was dumb. Now we can't ever bowl in that end, and now adding a scoreboard looks stupid too, but we do really need it, so this is about the best we could do. It looks horrible, but what are you going to do now?
Why would need to bowl in the North end zone? Lets just get the South end zone done. That will be enough, and if we do grow in attendance we can add more seating else where.

Olsen: concrete block, concrete, glass, glass block,
Jake: concrete block, bush hammered concrete (or something very similar), glass, steel/ aluminum.
Regardless, doesn't change my opinion on design. Those are the primary materials. Visible from the stands. For my taste, I wouldn't use brick.

Ideally, if the jake hadnt been built and i had a choice between the two, id rather bowl in the north than the south to block out some of the north wind.If i was going to put a building in the north id rather have had it be a much bigger building to be much more imposing in that endzone.

I know who designed it. A Nationally award winning Architecture firm in Des Moines, IA. Phenomenal designers, In my own opinion. Several were professors of mine. They are not idiots, they're very smart, and they had good reasons for what they did.
Bowling in either end of this stadium WAS THE FARTHEST THING AWAY in ANYONE's mind when they built the Jake. In fact, I can imagine that this project was at the time viewed as a way to make the stadium and facilities look more "big time." It's the only thing they had going - they did with it what they could. We are a long ways from needing to bowl in the North end zone. If the South endzone gets filled up, they can put an upper deck on it.
I love the roof design - its modern, unique and graceful, and contextual (as you mentioned w/ CY Stephens and Hilton). And that is what was ultimately sold to the Ath. Dept. at the time. But that's just my opinion. Everyone has their own.

Arkansas' is what I think ours will most look like, video wise and not structural wise. Notice They have a large gap as well.

Agreed, but now that the Jake is there and is what it is, we can build more seats elsewhere if that need ever arises.

I don't know why people feel the need to ***** about the coolest thing to happen for the football in awhile. I actually think there's a lot of potential for it to look pretty cool.

Re: ***Video Board Renderings Released***
Didn't read the 14 pages before me so I don't know everyone elses reaction but, my initial reaction... I don't especially care for it. I think it needs to drop a little bit lower to the jake. And I'm a little surprised they are leaving the structural steel exposed. I would have thought a concrete pillar would have looked a lot better, but maybe more expensive.
But... I'm sure I'll like it when it's up.

Double deck SEZ = 60k permanent seats i believe. We have no needs beyond that for the time being. If we're ever at the point where we're really showing we need more room there are ways (expensive ways, but ways) the stadium could be expanded further, but thats probably a long, long ways off.

Re: ***Video Board Renderings Released***
To me, the artist didn't do the board justice. It doesn't look impressive to me. Looks awkward. I think once it is finished being built, it will look phenomenal though. Definitely will help with recruits as it will make the stadium look much more impressive.

Re: ***Video Board Renderings Released***
Also, I'd rather have a gap than have the roof of the Jacobsen building cave in from snow drifts forming on the new board, but that's just my personal feelings on the matter.

Re: ***Video Board Renderings Released***
Interesting that there are 1584 lines of vertical resolution. I wonder how the fullscreen video will work. I'd guess they'd shoot in normal 720x1280 and upscale and crop for the full screen video and scale it down for the normal view. I guess what I'm getting at is that the video (not including ads or the stat graphics) would be 485x1280 (upscaled to 600x1584) in "fullscreen", but normally about 600x1066 (downscaled from 720x1280).
I guess if they shoot in 1080, fullscreen would be 600x1584 (downscaled from 727x1920) and normal still 600x1066 (but now downscaled from 1080x1920).
As a comparison, normal standard definition is 480x640. I'm not sure how these things work, especially with costs, but I wonder why they wouldn't have given the scoreboard a little more resolution for the extra stats and ad so it could display true HD video.
Or maybe I am just misreading something or my math is bad or anything more than 480 is close enough to HD that no one will care. -
