Re: First opponent UNI...experienced team
The only times we've had trouble with UNI is when we lose the turnover battle. IIRC, when we lost to them we were -4 in turnovers, and when we barely beat them the year before we were also -4 in turnovers. As long as we take care of the ball, I expect us to win handily. But in the first game with a new backfield, I'm a little concerned about that.

Re: First opponent UNI...experienced team
We are a respectable Big 12 team. We went to a bowl game two years ago. We came within a play of a bowl game last year. Many around here expect us to make a bowl game again this year. The only time a fan of a program of this level should be worried about losing to a team like UNI is when we are down by a couple TDs to them in the 4th quarter. At any other time you should expect a W with absolute certainty.
I know they have beat us a few times in our history, and recently enough for many to remember here. However, those wins came against some of the worst teams in ISU history. And we are a school with a lot of crappy history. That is no reason to show UNI any respect this year. In years where our program has a pulse, we take care of UNI. Often pretty handily.

That last loss against UNI was not only one ISU's worst teams, but one of UNI's best. They'll be solid this year, but not as good as that team.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -

Taking out the 1900 UNI win (by a score of 5-0), they have won 3 times. Twice were during the walden era -didnt last long after those) and once during the Chizik. In those 3 seasons we were a combined 7-26-1.
Hell, we managed to beat UNI during the 2003 season, which was an absolute debacle of a season.
If we're worried about UNI, we should probably just implode the stadium, because we have no hope as a program of ever amounting to anything.

I expect something like a 38-10 victory.

We spanked a very good NIU team last year. CPR has us as a mid-pack Big 12 team right now. A mid-pack Big 12 team should ALWAYS crush a UNI.
We've lost once and struggled twice against UNI in the past decade. We were terrible in all 3 of those years. To be fair, we beat a bad NIU team when they played in Ames. Had they not kept their starting qb out, it would have been a tougher game. We will beat UNI this year. We play pretty well against 1-dimensional teams (Nebraska, Northern Illinois when we played them, Texas). We struggle with teams that can do both (Iowa, Utah, Oklahoma). Fortunately, UNI can't throw worth a lick. The two concerns I have is what can we expect out of the qb position, and is ISU the team that played Utah, Oklahoma, and Colorado or the team that played Texas, Kansas, and Tech.
A solid 17-21 point victory will make me think we're in contention to go bowling. Anything less, and we'll need some breaks against most teams to go bowling.

Re: First opponent UNI...experienced team
I expect a win in the fashion that allows us to see all 4 QB's in real game situation. I am talking 5-6 TD margin. UNI should not have more than 250 yards of offense, and ISU should be twice that.
Friends don't let friends wear black & gold. Build a man a fire, you keep him warm for a day. Set a man on fire, you keep him warm for the rest of his life. Set a hawkeye fan on fire, you make Iowa a better place to live. -

Re: First opponent UNI...experienced team
In year 3 of the current regime....we should be in a place to easily handle UNI.
If we don't...hopefully our ginormous new scoreboard will be wind toppled and squash their team as they leave the field.

I'd rather the 3rd string QB play the whole 4th quarter if that scenario should present itself.
How cool would it be though if we put a 2001 seneca wallace debut butt whoopin on them 45-0 again?? ... (Or even a 2010 27-0 butt whoopin would be good too )
