I was delving through gocyclones.com last night, which I don't exactly frequent, and found a couple of hidden gems. Didn't see it mentioned here. I don't think that there has been much comment on this article here, but there were some statements by Shane Burnham about the defensive tackles that I found very illuminating. The initial article is here:
Among the comments that I found intriguing were not only that Jake McDonough was better, much thanks to improved flexibility, but some comments about Cleyon Laing, including that he had been slowed through the Spring with a hip flexor injury.
“What he does best is he runs and rushes the passer and that’s taken that a little bit away,” Burnham said.
There is a lot more to the article than that, but I also found what he said about the recent signees interesting:
“I like to hang that over their head,” Burnham said. “You have to go out there and do something this spring because I’m going to find out what Henry is all about and what Quinton is all about when he gets here. I told them this is the time. You better earn your spot because once fall camp gets here I’m going to give those guys a look.”
And as far as depth:
-- Burnham believes this is the deepest group he’s had at ISU. But he says it is inexperienced depth.
“Outside of those top three, Cleyon, McDonough and Rump, we don’t have anyone that has played any snaps yet,” Burnham said.

Yeah, he said all of those things when it was his turn to do the spring practice interview. I guess I would describe him as very cautiously optimistic. Just like me.
I'm optimistic that the D-line will be improved from last year. Lots of returning guys and more depth. I'm looking forward to the sack and hurries stats going up a couple notches, and opposing qb completion percentage going down accordingly.
