I can't believe I forgot that one  I've been out of school too long :arghh:

A somewhat new tradition, is the spirit walk for when the football team first arrives at the stadium. I enjoy this one, getting to tell the players good luck to their faces right before the game.
Yeah, in terms of "traditions" this one has only been around for a few years. I know people have always greeted the team, but didn't they recently (Chizik's first year??) start stopping the busses a hundred or so yards from the locker room, so that it's a longer walk? (they used to stop right on that street, so that walk was like 30 yards long)
The 5 clap opponent introduction at basketball is a unique ISU tradition.
Basically, as each opposing team's players are introduced, the Hilton crowd claps 5 times in unison followed by a deafening silence.
I like it because it gives a sense of politeness (you're clapping for them, after-all) but still when the silence hits after the 5th clap it's kind of shocking (when done right, anyway).
You can call tailgating an ISU tradition. I've been to quite a few other schools and its not nearly as big of a deal. Some schools (Baylor, Nebraska) its almost non-existant.
I was at the one in 2009. We live fairly close to Kent, OH so it wasn't that big of a deal and the tickets were super cheap because the Golden Flashes never sell out!
This was a couple days before Halloween but it was 30 degrees or so and snowing (sort of):Quote:
Anyone can body paint in September, but it's the dedicated who do so in November

So there is no specified Seniors in front sort of thing? Or Houses/Fraternities? How common is it for Freshman to be in the front row? And I saw a video of the run at Hilton, how similar is that run into JTS?Quote:
Seating (at least was, doubt it's changed) first come first serve basis, gates open 90 minutes before kick off, be at the gates at least a half hour before that if you want a chance at front row or two, earlier before big games. Practice running up hills and down bleachers
I wonder who started that? Hmmmm. Who does it now and when do they graduate? :laugh:Quote:
Oh and for basketball apperently there is some tradition now where someone runs around the balcony of Hilton with a flag towards the end of the game... dunno where that one comes from though
I took a look at all of those chants led by Jeff Johnson and seem to get the hang of it. I'm slowly learning the fight song as well. Is there any student led chants? Like major ones instead of "De-Fense" etc because that's everywhere.
Example again from my HS (Can you guess which one I am?)

That was after a victory against one of our two main rivals. A fight commenced in the parking lot, supposedly because we did this to them
Am I worthy of Flag Guy's approval? :wideeyed:
Its first come, first serve for football. Doesn't matter what grade you are in, where you are from, or how big of fan you are. If you get the front row, you are there.
Same thing for basketball.
Here's a video of the student run for football. haha watch the people fall on their butts.

As far as football goes, the only defense chant the students will do is yelling, "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"
There's other things like ISU, ISU, ISU, but everything like that you will learn in .5 seconds.
Cyclone Aerobics and Cowbell are other cheers.
Here's cowbell (kind of hard to see)
