GO CYCLONES!!!!!!! When Mack Brown did an analysis of what went wrong with the 2010 season, one of the items he emphasized was his recruiting and filling up his classes way too early, which didn't leave room to recruit those late bloomers who came on strong in their senior years or left him stuck with players whose star had faded.
A lot of these Texas high schools are stocked with talented players who don't necessarily get a chance to show what they can do until they are seniors because they are playing behind upperclassmen or because they are just slower to develop. Also, a lot of kids are stars early, but get surpassed as they get older when the other kids catch up to them physically.
Brown vowed to hold off on accepting commitments too early in the process as a result of his analysis. Frankly, I'm a little bit surprised he has this many commits this early.

I'm sure that it is kind of hard to hold back. When you basically get your pick of the best HS players in the best HS football state, it has to be like Christmas morning. Why leave some presents unwrapped for 5 months when you can open them all now? Not to mention that CFB coaches are by nature arrogant and most have way too much confidence in their evaluation abilities.

Re: big 12-2 football recruiting
Never understood why any one of our fans tries to diminish our conference by calling it the Big 12-2.
Anyways, we shouldn't have to worry much about losing recruits to Coyer or Franchione or McCarney.

crosseyed, don't diminish coyer as a recruiter.he stole a good running back from the cyclones last year.he will put a good quality team on the field this fall. he has done a very good job of recruiting and is in a good area for recruiting with new braunfels close by and smithson valley near by ,too. then you have some big high schools in san antonio where he he can pick up decent recruits.too.

Re: big 12-2 football recruiting
crosseyed ,why call it the big 12 when there r only 10 teams in the conference.looks like nebraska and colorado left our conference and i only count ten(10) teams in our conference.
so what is wrong with 12-2???

Re: big 12-2 football recruiting
Not to nitpick but it's Larry Coker at UTSA.
I thought I heard they were looking to jump into a bigger conference in the next few years and step it up a notch.

Yeah, referring to the conference as the Big 12 minus 2 is akin to calling the Big 10 the Big 11 a few years ago. Most will take it as a slam.
The conference chose to stay with the current branding for continuity, just like the Big10 (now B1G TEN) did even with 12 teams. It also leaves open the option to expand back to 12 if necessary in the future.
