Good Players, Bad Teams...

Re: Good Players, Bad Teams...
One 15 second glance at that article and I came to the realization that their definition of a "bad" team is one that isn't located in Austin, Norman, Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Baton Rouge, Columbus, Los Angeles, etc. Iowa State is by no means a powerhouse, but are we necessarily a bad team? Remains to be seen...

Re: Good Players, Bad Teams...
How many of those other "bad" teams have beaten Nebraska and Texas in their respective backyards AND won a bowl game in the last two years?
We still have a lot of room for improvement, but I just don't buy that we're a "bad" team anymore.

So what exactly is this guy's definition of a bad team? I stand by my argument...

So what exactly is this guy's definition of a bad team? I stand by my argument... And all are considered to be bad teams by National media. I didn't say that's the only way to define a bad team but when you have 17 wins in the last 4 years and a trajectory leaning towards flat over the last 10, you aren't going to be more than a bad team in the National media. I disagree with it and I think next year we will be and average to good team, but I certainly don't expect someone to look at our performance over the previous two seasons and say we are more than bad.

Re: Good Players, Bad Teams...
Another worthless rivals article. We weren't a bad team last year. We played the toughest schedule in the nation, went 5-7 and were a 2 point conversion away from another bowl game. Cheezdiks 2 years at ISU were bad teams. Do they realize he's not cheating...er...coaching here anymore?

It was at one point but when Texas plummeted and no one else except Oklahoma, Utah, and Iowa were much above average, our SOS went down. Still a difficult schedule, but still a schedule we should have made a bowl game with.

Re: Good Players, Bad Teams...
Iowa State will be considered a "bad team" until we win a conference championship, or we are in the discussion for one at the end of the year for 2 or 3 years in a row.
National Media (heck even most Big12 media) outlets use us as the "Example" of a bad team regularly. It doesn't matter if we're average or even an above average. We are, and we will be, the easy target because we've been bad for so long.

We are, and we will be, the easy target because we've been bad for so long. Part of the issue is that we aren't a great team, but we are in a much publicized conference. When OU beats us 54-0 it gets a lot more press than when New Mexico State gets pummeled. Then, when we beat NU in Lincoln or UT in Austin they immediately see it as a sign of those teams being horrible and ask how ISU beat them.
We have to win more games, especially the ones we are supposed to, so that upsets don't seem that out of the ordinary.

Re: Good Players, Bad Teams...
Clemson always comes to my mind when I hear "good players, bad team"

Re: Good Players, Bad Teams...
Eh, I don't particularly disagree with much in the article. When you go bowling consistently, you are a good team. When you don't, you're a bad team. We haven't been consistent, thus the bad team mantra.
