Re: New Big 12 Schedule Unfair? - CPR Quote
If we are or were really concerned with the number of BCS teams we face in 2011, then when we "mutually agreed" with Utah to drop the game this season, we should have dropped UConn as well, and scheduled a Central Michigan or something. The schedule is what it is. We need to perform well enough to get 6 wins this year. Then, with the extra practice and extra exposure, get to 7 wins or 8 or more for future. I do not want to be Bill Snyder and schedule 4 pure cup cakes in the non-conf to help make sure we get to a bowl. I would rather get to 6 wins playing 11 BCS teams and be chosen over Mizzu for a better bowl game. I really think we need to just improve faster than the other lower tier Big 12 teams so we become one of the top 4 or 5 in the league. Should we schedule 11 BCS games every year? No. But now is too late to worry about that for 2011.

We both lost about the same amount at skill positions, but they still have many more question marks than we do, including how effective their coaching staff will be.
The final score in their spring game was 16-14, including a pick six by the defense. The 4 quarterbacks in their race combined for 9-32 passing for a whopping 69 passing yards, the best of them being 6-16 for 51 yards, a TD, and an Int. Their defense will be salty, but if their offense can't score, then we should be able to come away with a win, even if we're only able to put together a couple of big offensive plays on the day. Throw in that we play them in week 3, and I think we might even be favored.

There's nothing unfair about our new schedule and there isn't anything unfair about the Pac 12's schedule. Well said.

The Big 12 could have used an 8 game conference schedule if they wanted, it's not like it was mandatory to play 9 games.
I think the Big 10 will likely move to 9 games in the near future but I do not think the decisions of one conference should have any impact on the decision making of another conference.
edit: I'll add that by that logic, the Big 12 and Big East should be forced to have 12 members and play a conference championship game since the other conferences do as well and it could be a competitive advantage to not play one.

If our conf expects a full round robin schedule I say we at isu have no choice but to get on with it and see what cpr can do with said schedule.
Does anyone really think that its gonna be any easier for KSU KU or Mizzou to compete in a 9 game schedule?
How about Tex Tech and poor poor baylor pitiful bears in the old south division?
Im willing to give cpr 3 more years to get us to a bowl game ...if no bowl games happen in the next 3 years then its....
Fire'em boys and get a new coach!!!!

I think many of us on this board still remember the trips to places like NIU, etc. where we "should" have won but got embarrassed by a team from a non-BCS conference. We have hardly EVER played well on the road in recent history....until that trend changes I don't see my confidence changing either.

Ugh...I was at that game...cold and windy for a September day...a stadium that reminded me of a decent slightly larger version of a high school stadium. And NIU fans that were incredibly obnoxious! And then our performance...thanks a lot for bringing that day back into my thoughts!

I look forward to going on the road and beating a team that just went to a BCS bowl. That is the opportunity we have. Just pointing out that we have 11 BCS conference games on the schedule. If some think we need cupcakes, we could have changed that last year when the new Big 12 schedule was announced. I think we have the opportunity, with a third year coach, and more players fitting his systems, to move up to the top half of the Big 12 and not be a have not any more. I really want to be the place in the North that the other teams don't want to visit. We need to beat KU, KSU, Mizzu, Baylor, TT, and Texas, all of which I think we could, and I think we will win at least 2 of our non-conf. Then we don't really have to be concerned. With the departure of NU, and CU, who we never really played well against, we are at a point where we could become an upper half team for the next 10 years. That success will breed more and greater success. More kool aide please. Friends don't let friends wear black & gold. Build a man a fire, you keep him warm for a day. games off there all losses....
I agree with you that ISU needs to win all of the games you mentioned to go bowling but I dont see winning on the road this year...
A win over Texas is possible but then again thats a home game so it is possible.
CPR needs to get rolling or else the fanbase will Walden-ize him and stay home on saturdays.
Oh baby does reality bite!!!!!
Iowa State will only be favored in 2 games this year...quoting John Walters voice of the cyclones
