Should we drop Iowa?
I have seen this argument around this board and wanted to post a poll and see what the Fanatics' opinions are.
On one hand, we already play 9 conference games and Iowa just makes it 10, every season. It's undeniably a more difficult road to a potential bowl berth with the Hawkeyes on the schedule.
On the other hand, it's the best rivalry game we have and the single biggest sporting event in the state every year. Beating Iowa is one of the best feelings I've had as a Cyclone fan.
So what's your take? Keep it, drop it, or change it somehow?

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
I don't see why we should drop Iowa. Especially, considering that we have had some pretty good sucess against them over the past 10 years. Iowa is tough, but that's what makes a good rivalry. Keep it!

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
To the people who say drop it:
You guys are such hypocrites. You complain when Iowa says we shouldn't play the game because it's a lose lose for them. Listen to yourselves. Don't play the game, our schedule is too hard. Are you the same people who complain that there are no good games in the non-conference? It's the biggest in-state game of the year. Play it. Be a better team.

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
Every other year. Give us a better chance to get to six in off years by playing South Dakota State or their brother at home.
Hey, the whole deal is about winning the conference. If you do not do that, you need to go bowling. If you fail to bowl, then your recruiting is hurt. The realistic answer is to not play every year if you want to look better at end of the year.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Should we drop Iowa?
I was at the 1977 game - the first game after a 34-year hiatus and it took acts of the Reagents and legislators just to get it back on schedule.
I can't believe folks never learn from history; if we drop this it will likely never happen again in our lifetime.
I could give a crap about dropping Iowa in exchange for the hope we get 6-6 records and play Dec bowl games in Boise. On the other hand when we beat them it only strengthens our cause for better / Jan bowl games.
Football is suppose to be fun and entertainment and that is exactly what our in-state rivalry is all about. Re: Should we drop Iowa?
I think it would be best for both teams to drop the game. ISU has a 9 game conference schedule and the big 10 is moving to one as well. The only thing it does is make the schedule tougher. Iowa State needs to win games and get to bowl games, period. Winning games and going to bowls will allow ISU to get better recruits and become a better team. Good non-con teams can always be added to the schedule later. The only benefit in playing Iowa is that it is a rivalry but remember there was a break in the rivalry before, and I think there should be one now.

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
Besides, in 5-years or so, I bet we don't even have TX, or maybe OU on the schedule.

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
Kind of a tough call. I believe not having Iowa on the schedule would benefit the Cyclones in the long run. As long as ISU plays all the other B12 teams every year, they need a softer non conference schedule. Just the way it is.

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
I think we should play it every other year when we have the extra home game in the 9 game conference schedule. When we only have 4 conference home games, we need another cupcake on the schedule.

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
I think its too early to say one way or the other. We havent even played the 9 game conf schedule yet.
Lets see how it plays out.
If we continously finish with 5 wins (including a loss to Iowa), then maybe I can entertain it.
Let's wait and see though.
There may end up being no need to drop it!

Re: Should we drop Iowa?
Scheduling is a good point to bring up as well. It would be nice to lock down 7 home games each season.
However I just can't get past the fact that it's the Iowa game... the biggest game each season and the most important in the whole state... Regardless of how tough it may be, it's one that I think we have to play. And I love it!
