We always have to have this thread come back to life.
FACT: ISU has a small press box
FACT: ISU doesn't need a bigger one because we have full use of the space in between the 2 decks on both sides of the stadium and the Jacobson. So picture all those suites and club area above and you would have a large press box.
Iowa didn't have much of anything until they built that.
All of these schools with giant press boxes have the same press areas that we do, they just built their luxury boxes there. Our luxury boxes already exist therefore there is no reason for us to expand that press box structure.
The pressbox isn't big by means but it works. It's not like we have tons of media people covering our games. Building a bigger one would be a waste of money that could go towards other more important needs. If 5 years from now, the south end is bowled in and the football building is built and we need a bigger one, then look into it.
I'm neither here nor there on our pressbox. My question is, why are any of you arguing against the idea of expanding it? There isn't even a proposal out there, and if there was, how would it negatively impact your experience? Obviously if the time comes to expand the press tower, it will be done in a financially responsible manner like all projects under Pollard, and you will have no say in the matter.
I can never figure out why people are willing to argue against something that has no affect on them whatsoever...
What most of us realize, however, is that most of the massive press boxes you see around the NCAA are just additional suites, and since JTS already has an adequate number of suites located between the two decks, having an expanded press box at this point simply isn't a priority. The new football facilities and the scoreboard certainly are priorities, most would argue bowling in the south endzone (and perhaps at least partially bowling in the north) are priorities as well.
Like I said, if JP held a press conference tomorrow stating ISU's need for additional suites and he was going to accomplish this by expanding the press box, I think only a very vocal minority would actually complain about it. The rest of us, however would probably be drooling at how sweet it is.
I would agree that it would look pretty dang awesome, but if we needed more suites they would be installed in the south endzone and even on the east side before they started the massive expensive project of expanding the press box.
I would say a massive pressbox would help the East side out with the sun though:)
Yes I love K-State's bowled in endzone. Especially after pulling splinters out of my backside cause I was sitting on wooden bleachers. Good thing we won in 2006. Other then the bowled in endzone, Bill Synder Family Stadium is a dump. The one endzone getting redone looks better, new turf will be nice, but until they do that press box, that place is still terrible.
Ohhhh and tailgating there is a joke. Goat and sheep lots. Have to have beer in a colored cup.
I do have to admit that I like their student section. They seem to get into cheers and have tradition behind their fight songs and cheers.
Interesting to note that the Iowa State press box/radio-TV booths are in fact more spacious than their counterpart at Texas' Memorial Stadium. I have been on AirTran flights with more leg room than what they have at UT. It may be the one facility advantage Iowa State has, but dammit we'll take it!
