The only way Brett was going anywhere besides ISU was if the coaching staff completely blew off the family....and that's exactly what they did. Ferentz was more than happy to pick up the pieces on that one. Just so sad. -

For iowa, he must have been further down and only got the offer when they decided they wanted an extra RB above what they had planned.
I just think that the whole thing is a little weird. If they thought he was a BCS back, why not offer before now? What changed that made him worthy in their eyes...was it Coe going to IWCC or did one of the guys they were after commit somewhere else? It's not like he blew up their camp, since that is supposedly this coming weekend.
I hope that he sees that ISU believed in him first and sticks, but you never know in recruiting.

I really do think the Iowa staff was hoping that Hill would be available as a preferred walk-on or wait it out and be a late offer as a back up plan. Once he comitted to ISU early, they threw the offer out there in hopes that Hill would think about it and possibly reconsider before the end of the year.
Iowa has a history of slow playing Iowa kids and hoping to pull them in late (walk-on or late offer). Especially athletes that they may want to move to other positions.

I wish we would do that so we could get some of these iowa kids to walk on and get some athletes from Florida or Texas.

Your last sentence sums it up - we're already bracing ourselves.
The last in-state player who actually chose ISU over the Hawks was Austen Arnaud. That's so depressing. The worry and angst that ISU fans have concerning the possibility of Hill going to Iowa is certainly justified. We need to beat them on the field.

Like you said there are some kids that aren't really attainable, but we need to get those kids that are on the fence, especially since theres a good chance kids growing up in Iowa the last decade or so are probably Hawk fans.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.
