Re: Maybe ISU needs to start cheating
found that the five-year winning percentages of 35 teams sanctioned over a 15-year period ending in 2002 actually rose, from .547 to .566 in the five years after they were penalized by the NCAA.
Winning percentage of .547 in a 12 game season = 6.564 wins a season
Winning percentage of .566 in a 12 game season = 6.792 wins a season
So, are they really doing better after they cheat are hit with penalties? I would say no.

I'm normally in favor of self governance, but I would have absolutely no problem with Congress or the Dept. of Justice intervening and investigating the NCAA. At the very least look into their nonprofit status. I agree with this sentiment...
The NCAA should punish the coaches or administrators when violations occur under their watch and not necessarily the school itself. Why not ban coaches who cheat from coaching NCAA sanctioned events for X number of years? Ultimately coaches should be held accountable... they are the ones that allow this sort of thing in the name of winning and making boosters happy.

Agreed. The whole Honor BEFORE Victory looks really stupid when you have a football program with the history of ours.

Re: Maybe ISU needs to start cheating
if your team doesn't break any rules, per se, but acts like Thug U did back in the 80s... is that still "honor before victory" in your mind?
where do you draw the line? miami kicked *** and had a big following. they went from zero to hero in a blink of an eye. bill snyder was infamous for a lot of low brow recruiting stuff, as was houston nutt. Kirk ferentz and doyle ran their players till they were dangerously ill. Is any of that stuff against the code? This elitist moral code we wish to stand by?
I say bend the rules and bend them some more. Win games. Its the name of the game (ask gene chiz!)

dualthreat you lost all your credibility as an ISU FB fan last fall after the Iowa game.

Re: Maybe ISU needs to start cheating
Does anyone here think we might of cheated a little during our successful years in basketball while Floyd was coaching the mens basketball program?
There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams -

Re: Maybe ISU needs to start cheating
Winning teams are not the only ones cheating. If you guys think you are not bending or breaking a rule that is crazy. Some teams just do it to a higher extent than others, and thus these violations. And some teams aren't getting caught. But all teams are cheating, one way or another.
This should not bother ISU. I have a feeling they are doing everything they can to not get caught and they aren't doing anything out of line that any other D1 school isn't doing. They are on the right path in Rhoads and hopefully they can compete for the top 3-4 in the B12 (and don't take 3-4 as a slight, Texas and OK are obvious, but hopefully they can be 3-4 in the near future, which I think ISU fans would like).

Anyone who thinks ISU should just blow off the whole "Honor Before Victory" thing, I've got two words for you: Jim Criner.
End of thread.

Besides, the NCAA may be hesitant to pull the "death penalty trigger" on schools like USC or OSU, but I bet they wouldn't think twice about using it against ISU as proof that they would in fact still use it.
If I ever found out that ISU was repetitively intentionally incurring major NCAA violations to try to gain a leg up on its competition, I'd go find another school to cheer for.

Iowa State cuts as many corners as most teams. We don't have the deep pocketed boosters to go any further than that.
Hopefully, if CPR can get this thing going, and we start to draw the casual fan, then maybe we can land some whales that will help us be more competitive in recruiting.
The last part, I will add even though I shouldn't have to.
