Welcome to CF. Don't feel obliged to answer every little criticism that comes your way. Post your contributions, identify the rational posters to which to respond, and engage in conversations as you wish. Because Eastern Iowa University is sometimes known as "Iowa," some of us cringe even at the mention of our state. It was clear in your initial post that a kid was moving from the state of Texas to the state of Iowa for Iowa State University. Heck, you are posting on CycloneFanatic, not HawkeyeReport. If you wonder how someone got the wrong idea, recognize that it probably wasn't from you, but somethimg that was already in their head and was bound to leak out anyway. There are some fairly predictable patterns on this forum.

Stay above the fray, as you have already shown that you know how to do. Don't let the antagonizers take you down.

And if your guy ever misses a key kick, stay off the site for a few days. It can be brutal.

Please tell us more about what he liked about the coaching staff. And did he choose walking on with us over a scholarship elsewhere? If so, he has the kind of confidence that I like in a kicker.

Al is saying he would trade Culbertson's 5 FG performance against Iowa for FG makes vs Mizzou in 2004 and Kansas in 2005.

IIRC, Culbertson's kick vs Kansas was in OT to force a 2nd OT.
It was. He also missed kicks against Missouri and Nebraska that year that would have been huge. Not to mention the Missouri '04 kick which is one of the worst misses I've ever seen.

Cyclone football is subpar. IMO its a product of the system.
I agree with the first sentence. Not the second.

I actually met this kid at my Freshmen Orientation on Tuesday and Wednesday. He said that he has come up to the ISU football camp the past 2 years and won the kicking part of it. Very nice kid, and majoring in Business! Said that they had 14,000 people at one of their High School games

Sounds like a good kicker I wish him well going up against the ISU curse. And it is good that he can punt in case we have an emergency or something with Van der Kamp, but don't expect him to punt at all other than that because our punter is all Big 12 and a sophomore this fall.

Thought so. As others...welcome to the board. Another thing to remember, as a family member of someone on the team, you don't have to jump in to defend. If the poster is a jackarse anyway, or is just looking for a response, you might make more enemies with your response (first case) or give them what they want (second case). Let the anonymous others respond, usually they do.

And most of all...remember that what is said on here by anyone will get you a 99 cent burrito...if you add 99 cents to it. Opinions are like arseholes...everyone's got one, but that doesn't mean they're all worth sharing with others.

Sounds like a great prospect with great potential. Preferred walkons like Chris Moore cost us NOTHING. Preferred walkons have to to earn their way on to the team. Guys like Jessie Smith, who earned a spot and became a standout.

No downside with Chris Moore at all. I like it. And he can redshirt and practice. Because when Mahoney graduates we need a PK.

Tell your son to start working on his passing and running as well. This coaching staff is not afraid to use a little trickeration. Welcome to CyclONE NATION.

Please understand and excuse the frustration we've had with some previous kickers.

I'd give both cajones to have a stud kicker again finally.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I found this site today, and saw a post on a freshman walk-on kicker - Chris Moore. He is my nephew. People in the post said, "Gee, did he play JV or what? I thought Texas filled the stands on Friday Night?" He played at Plano High School, which graduates 1650 kids per year - it is a HUGE high school and they play in a $35M stadium. The posted highlights, if he is in white, are on the road. At home, they averaged 9,000 over game, and 14,000+ in the playoffs. That is a big high school crowd.

Others said "the highlights showed just extra points kicked off a tee - illegal in college". He kicked plenty of field goals - missing just 3 all year his senior year, 2 because of bad snaps. His blocking was suspect all year on FGs. He had a long kick of 49 yards, and missed a 56-yarder by less than a foot wide left. Had the distance. He has been going to Iowa, Oklahoma and Texas camps for the last 3 years, and was the top kicker at the camp in Iowa in 2010. He is more than capable of kicking PATs and FGs without a tee. He really has a big leg.

More than 60% of his kickoffs were into the end zone, and he kicked 3 kickoffs out the back of the end zone in their only playoff game in 2010. He also hit a 42 yard field goal in the playoff, and it had so much extra distance, it went out of the back of the end zone by about 20 yards further into the parking lot. He also punted, and averaged about 47 yards per kick, but is currently a better kicker than punter.

He chose Iowa over Arkansas and Oklahoma schools because his grandparents on both sides are from Iowa, and he liked how the coaches treated him in recruiting.

He is a good kid, not cocky, but confident enough to make big kicks. He is so happy to be going to Iowa State, and I hope he helps your team. I certainly will be pulling for the Cyclones for the next 4 years, and hopefully, beyond.

Just wanted you to know. I know you want a winner and have been frustrated, but please try not to flame him until you see his capability. Think you will be glad he is vacating Texas for Iowa
Lesson #1) Be careful when you say/type/print "Iowa". Thats the Hawkeyes. Iowa STATE is the Cyclones (The good guys!)
