QB competition. Whats your Opinion?
Well first lets take a look at the stats.
In 2010 AA threw for 1700 yards and completed 59.0%. He threw 13 TDs and 10 interceptions. His longest pass was 37 yards. His 2010 record was 4 and 6 excluding northern iowa where he only threw one pass for 6 yards.
Which brings me to my next point. Some people that Ive talk to think that Tiller, Jantz, and Barnett won't be an improvement over Arnaud. While I respect their loyalty, I personally find it hard to believe that a three way competition will not produce a guy better than AA.
Coach Messingham seems to be set pretty high on Jantz, so I'm gonna go with Steele as our 2011 starter.
Thats my opinion.

Re: QB competition. Whats your Opinion?
It will be hard for a QB like Jantz not to improve. I could see the % being a little lower this first year.. maybe a few more INT's... but that being said.. he has more than enough arm to jack up the passing yards and TD's.

Re: QB competition. Whats your Opinion?
I think that the competition will definitely produce a more efficient QB that fits our scheme and our offense. I look forward to having a QB who is a little faster, with more escabability, and built more for accuracy.
Like I've said before, AA was built for a pro style offense. Whoever our QB is this year will be built for the spread. I expect improvement over the 9th best Big 12 QB.

Re: QB competition. Whats your Opinion?
I predict that there will be a competition and someone will start at QB on September 3rd.

The intriguing thing to me is that Jantz is pretty fast himself and can get some yards on the ground as well, which kind of takes away one of Tiller's advantages. That is the reason I expect Jantz to win, because I just don't see Tiller improving his passing THAT much. If Barnett wins then so be it because I have no idea how far he is or anything about him really. I don't care who wins though as long as it is the best player to put points on the board.

IIRC, Jantz is the fastest QB we have. It is a 3 man race. Tiller hasn't been all that impressive in the PT we have seen so far. But Sage Rosenfels hadn't been very impressive either at this point in his career. I remember everyone bemoaning the fact that Todd Bandhauer had used up his eligibility and would have had 1 more year if Mac hadn't blown a year of eligibility for him by playing him in one game his freshman year.

Thats my opinion. I predict that unless our WR catch the damn ball better and our OL blocks better and has fewer penalties, it won't matter who the QB is as the offense will stall. People seem to focus on the QB way too much. Our whole offense needs to get better.

Why does AA's '10 stats have anything to do with the current QB competition--except as an excuse to bash him? His stats have absolutely nothing to do with the guys here now.
If they are lucky, they'll have better pass protection and receivers to work with. But the mere fact that a starter has graduated has absolutely nothing to do with whether the replacements are better or worse than he is.

Re: QB competition. Whats your Opinion?
I think all of these guys have potential to exceed AA, but it's a 50/50 shot as to whether or not they do.
We could have had a LOT worse QB play the last few years. I just hope we don't have to actually learn that the hard way.
