Re: ISU vs. Nebby 1976
All that think DMac was the first to bring ISU to football revelance should look into where the Cyclones were at in this point in our program's history. These '76, '77 teams could play with anyone in the country. Iowa was the little brother doormat in those years.
Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE. -

Sent the cyclones.com link to my two brothers who were there that day. They still get a little emotional about it. -

To this day that is easily the most memorable football game I've ever been too. And the single play that, to me, is the one that sticks out is the Luther Blue kickoff return. As I remember it was brutally cold the day before when they played the JV game, I think that was against Nebraska too but can't remember for sure. I just remember how cold it was. Then the next day for the big game it turned out to be perfect chilly football weather. My favorite Cyclone team of all time - it's hard to believe we didn't go to a bowl game that year but there were so few back then.
Chris Williams, maybe you could do an interview with Tom Randall about the game since he will be inducted into the HOF this year.

My brothers also keep mentioning that Luther Blue kickoff return...
In fact, when Shontrelle juked the Kansas player out of his jockstrap last year, my oldest brother started shouting "Luther Blue!"
The Tom Randall interview sounds like a great idea!

Re: ISU vs. Nebby 1976
Thanks for the photos. I recall the day being hazy just as the pics show. I was indeed on the field and have a washer from one of the goalposts. Unlike '78 ISU-Iowa Game @ Kinnick W 31-0) where I have much larger souvenier. About five feet worth . . . :)

It was pretty wild being able to see that old footage of JTS. Pretty cool to see how undeveloped the area around it was. They show all the crowd running up the hills and what's now the S lots is just a chunk of pasture looking ground.
Is it just me, or does Jack Trice look "newer" today than it did when it was new?
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -
Re: ISU vs. Nebby 1976
Based on the shadows determining north and south, it looked like JTS had an equally large endzone bleachers at both ends.
The pics winterink posted of JTS in 1984 showed the surrounding area was still barren then.

No one can match our dedication and passion for Nintendo's classic sports titles...Tecmo Bowl & R.B.I. Baseball. In-depth strategy guides, player attributes, team rankings, along with incredibly detailed recaps of our season play. We don't reminisce, we just keep playing! -

Re: ISU vs. Nebby 1976
It was a cold brisk day that day and I remember Earle Bruce saying during the game that it was gonna be a ....
"Its gonna be a rockem sockem football game" and boy it sure was that and more because after about every other play a husker was coming off the field with some kind of an injury....
I also remember Glen Mason saying that you cant believe the look on tom osbornes face after nebbie lost that game.
The wins against nebbie in 76 & 77 were the two greatest victories of all time in cyclone football lore and I saw both of them in person at jack trice and memorial stadium in Lincoln.
After the win in '77 the husker fans were really mad and I mean madder than hell.
Earle Bruce the only winning coach in cyclone football history.

How do you think the '09 victory compares? If Rhoads stays around for a long time (not to put the cart in front of the hourse or anything), that could go down as one of his all-time top 10 victories.
