(Another) Scoreboard question
This sounds silly to ask but are they done installing the actual video portion of the scoreboard? It seems a little small compared to the size of the entire structure. I'm hoping the rest isn't advertising (although I realize there will be some advertising up there).
Re: (Another) Scoreboard question
The entire video portion of the scoreboard is up, correct. In the original plan, the rest is speakers covered by an I-State Logo of some sort...
Re: (Another) Scoreboard question
If you need glasses, just admit it.
The video portion may be much smaller than the structure holding the screen. Centex Man may not be big enough.
Re: (Another) Scoreboard question
I heard it is the 17th biggest screen in the country. So It should be nice sized.
Re: (Another) Scoreboard question
I didn't intend for the tone to be disappointed, just curious.
I forgot about the speakers too.

Well it came off as extremely negative!

Pictures don't do it any justice. Once you come around the curve on University and are looking straight at it from the south you will see what I mean.

Have you seen it in person? If not, you really shouldn't call it small.
Re: (Another) Scoreboard question
I would be curious to see a breakdown of the costs of the structure/video board/speakers.
Obviously that structure was a significant portion of the costs, so whenever we are due for an upgrade the next time around, hopefully we should be able to increase the size of the board without changing any of the structure.

Hypothetically, if we build larger sometime in the future, couldn't we essentially just build something taller using the same structure, but adding height to it?
Of course, we would consider the north winds.

Actually I was thinking this very same thing. From the pics the video portion looks small and I was thinking that they didnt have all of the video board installed. And I have not seen it in person as of yet so I will take everyones word for it.
I was under the impression that the video would run the entire width of the structure.
Re: (Another) Scoreboard question
We will just put the new one on the South end of the stadium when we bowl it in :jimlad:

Thats what I always tell the girls I meet on teh internets.
But on a topical note: Cyclone04, I thought the same thing too, (video entire width), but re-looked at the renderings at cyclones.com after the comment about the I-State logos. I think I just assumed those portions were video screens too. Sounds like they're not. Still an improvement.

I heard 13th a few weeks ago but obviously not a big difference between 13th and 17th :)
Bottom line, the scoreboard itself is huge. The structure is MASSIVE. If you thought the whole structure was going to be scoreboard, you didn't pay close enough attention when the plans were announced.
The new video screen will further expose the south endzone screen one for what it is - a 27-inch Sanyo that Van de Velde got on sale at Costco.
