Air Force (New Mexico) Is that going to be a money maker?
I do think that if you look at a Colorado MWC school, it should be Air Force. They draw almost twice of what CSU does for attendance, which suggests they might be more able to actually deliver the Denver market than CSU. Throw in the national appeal of a service academy, and I think they might have potential.

Re: If I had control of the Big XII( 16 Team League)
New Mexico is coming off of consecutive 1-11 seasons in the Mountain West. Their stadium seats under 39,000. Are they really a viable option for the Big XII?
Louisville is 55,000 and BYU is 64,000. Both have very solid men's basketball programs, as well. Both bring in new markets/eyeballs/fans without overlapping any of the current conference footprint. Both are in inferior positions than they would be with the Big XII.
BYU did just do the whole independent thing and may not want to come. If they won't, Air Force is a good option. 52,000+ stadium, decent enough basketball, plus a national appeal.
Cincinnati is what I would consider to be our last viable option (excluding the pie-in-the-sky ideas of Arkansas and Notre Dame). They have the athletics and they bring in Ohio. They aren't as attractive as the other three simply because I don't feel as if they "fit" in the Big XII.
If we needed two teams, I'd want Louisville and BYU. My 3rd and 4th options would be Air Force and Cincinnati. If the conference wants to go to 14, I think we have our next four teams right here.

^ Im of the thinking now that Louisville/Cinci is far too away for it to make financial sense for those schools to join
New Mexico stadium is not a lot smaller than Cinci & its market is worth the inclusion

Re: If I had control of the Big XII( 16 Team League)
New Mexico's stadium is actually a little bigger than Cincy's.
Louisville isn't all that far from Big 12 country either (assuming Mizzou is around).
I did notice that Albuquerque is one of the fastest growing markets in the country. I think that getting the call up to the BCS level can really make a program explode. All the schools that went from C-USA to the Big East have been successful, not just in a weaker league, but against other BCS schools.
I also LOVE the idea of Big 12 basketball in The Pit.

From a fan standpoint, we would get to boo Alford again, if we act quickly.

Originally Posted by Boomer ^ Im of the thinking now that Louisville/Cinci is far too away for it to make financial sense for those schools to join I don't think this is the case. I did some research and found the distances from what would currently be the geographical outlier of the Big XII, Iowa State.
College Station: 949 miles
Waco: 864
Austin: 965
Lubbock: 926
Norman: 598
Stillwater: 545
Columbia: 276
Lawrence: 267
Manhattan: 348
Average distance from Ames to Big XII schools: 638 miles
Did the same for Louisville and came up with:
Ames: 613 miles
College Station: 928
Waco: 930
Austin: 1,031
Lubbock: 1,106
Norman: 778
Stillwater: 725
Columbia: 386
Lawrence: 548
Manhattan: 629
Average distance from Louisville to Big XII schools: 767 miles
Really not that huge of a difference. The Big XII actually has it pretty good for travel. For its longest trip to be 965 miles (UT and ISU) is pretty good. Nebraska to Penn State is 1,092. Boston College to Miami is 1,505. Washington to Arizona State is 1,519!
Louisville would be just fine. I'm sure if it was a concern the schedule could be configured to limit travel to Texas. No more than one trip per year for football. We could go to pairing up schools for travel in other sports like basketball as well, like the Pac-12 does. Not a huge deal and really not unreasonable. And much better for the conference than adding a godawful program like New Mexico just because it fits geographically and the market's good.

Five of your proposed additions are definitely not Big 12 material and the sixth, Colorado State, is a huge reach. It could possibly be there someday, but it would have to make a massive new commitment to its athletics program.

If you are going to add non bcs teams, and they have to deliver something monetarily. I think only Memphis, BYU and UNLV do that.

Re: If I had control of the Big XII( 16 Team League)
Maybe a stupid question. Why is BYU not in our conference right now?
Makes sense for them, makes sense for the Big 12.
I seriously have no idea why the Big 12 is not going after them. Why would we not want them? Big market, competitive football. I just don't get this one at all. And to my knowledge, it hasn't been rumored or even considered.

Bordering three SEC states and three Big 10 states.

And to my knowledge, it hasn't been rumored or even considered. BYU wants to be like Notre Dame and I really don't think they would rejoin a conference unless they are forced to.
As far as I'm concerned,I would like to get to 12 teams and have a conference championship game.

Bordering three SEC states and three Big 10 states. Yeah... And Iowa State is bordered by 4 Big 10 states; doesn't make us any more of a viable option if they don't want us.
If the Big 10 really wanted Missouri, they would have taken you, they didn't, so move on...

Give it a rest, we know you hate this conference, too bad you're stuck here because no one else wants you.
