I looked around on this a little more. It doesn't look like Sherrill ever won one as HC. He was 11-1 three consecutive years from 1979-1981, but the AP national champions those years were Alabama (12-0), Georgia (12-0), and Clemson (12-0).
John Cooper finished 10-1-1 at Arizona State (AP #4) and 11-1 twice (AP #2) at tOSU
Looks like George Haffner was an OC at ISU under Majors and was the OC on Vince Dooley's 1980 Georgia team that won a national title.
