I think you are just trying to start a fight.
If you really don't think we can ever get to a level where we regularly go to bowl games, you have you head to far up DMacs rear end.

We followed this up by choking away the North title in back to back seasons. And then for his big exit, Dan went 4-8, beating Mizzou in a nail-biter in his final game to avoid going out with a winless conference campaign.
Dan made some improvements, but I would hardly say he put us on the map. Outside of the ISU fanbase, I don't think the reputation of our program has changed much at all. Those fans that don't still confuse us with the hawks, the buckeyes, or who knows what else would still identify us as a BCS bottom feeder.
It just seems to me like a lot of the Dan worship around here is more a reflection on the abysmal history of our program than it is on any accomplishments of Dan's. He got us to the doorstep a few times, but to me the legacy is more our continued, almost comical inability, to step through. So we finally beat Iowa and we went to a couple bowl games (that wouldn't have existed 20 years ago), and that was a good time, but it certainly didn't catapult us to a new level. Chizik couldn't do anything the following two years, and while we have high hopes for CPR, he has yet to show that the foundation was set for bigger things either.
I find the whole idea of an ISUAA sponsored event to go to a game not involving ISU to support a coach that was basically forced to resign from ISU just a little bit odd. I'm not going to say not to go, Dan clearly loved ISU and gave us his all and I respect that. But I honestly would be shocked if there are examples of other schools doing something at all like this. Thanks, you wrote this better than I would have and captured my thoughts exactly. I will add "being forced to resign" = "fired!"

I received a lot of feedback from our local alumni about going to see a UNT game once Dan took the job this spring, so we decided to make this one of our social events. Throughout the year, we have many social events, such as happy hours and attending a local Double-A baseball game. The money spent on these events by our members does not support Iowa State, but the events do bring alumni and their families together to share a good time.
We are currently in the process of organizing a bus to the Baylor game, but so far we have not had enough interest to fill the bus. Hopefully we can fill it here in the next few weeks and fill Floyd Casey with Cyclone fans! I would suggest your local group needs new leadership, your priorities are completely out of whack. Even if the ISUAA office is only communicating and organizing payments that has to be taking man-hours and money away from The Cyclones and that is wrong. I've already called the AA Office to voice my concern.

I think CPR can take us to a level that we get to bowl games regularly. There may be off years here or there but not full rebuilding mode like with DMac. I think we will also have opportunities to have a great season here or there.
That's better than DMac did.

That's better than DMac did. Honestly, no. It hurts to say that, but I'm trying to be realistic. I hope ISU can do better than Mac's legacy, but the new schedule, in-state recruiting, and revenue situation doesn't bode well for us.

ISU is making a hell of a lot more money now than it ever did when Mac was here.

Jim Walden has that beat at 0.313, and CPR has them both topped at 0.375. Criner had 0.346, Duncan had 0.286, and Bruce had 0.429. Of the last 7 coaches (not counting Banker who coached for only 2 games in 1986, and he was 0.500), the only one worse than DM was Chizik.
ISU can do better. You might try being a little less defeatist.
