Dmac has the most wins, but I'm pretty sure he also has the most losses.
He threw away chances at the North title? You're kidding, right? Did McCarney throw interceptions in the end zone? Not make blocks? Fumble? Do you understand that?

He refused to bring in a legit kicker, which cost us chances at two titles.... So yes.

Refused to get rid of ****** assistants and couldnt take advantage of a down north division.

You're kidding, right? I cannot believe you're blaming the kicking game on Dan McCarney. What crazy world do you live in?

I can't wait until we have this same conversation about Paul Rhoads ten years down the road. Should be fun. Stay classy, "fan".

    read the edited post.

He relied on walk-ons. His inability to not see that special teams were huge in games is on the coaching staff.

Oh and running a draw play on 3rd and long is going to fool the defense everytime... not.

The one in which the coach is responsible for filling the positions on the team. Whacky concept I know.

In your view, exactly what responsibility does the head coach have?

Apparently he gets to take credit for the good things, but the bad things are everybody else's fault. Seems a bit hypocritical, don't you think?

Dmacs biggest issue in the two games with a chance to win the North were his unending stubborn commitment to going conservative with a lead. It happened in so many games under DMac is was almost comical. We would get up by 7 and DMac would go into total prevent mode. Up the middle for three plays and punt, total prevent D.

Do you get what polarizing means now?

This is why I thought you were a troll initially. It is very naive to think that noone could have any issue with Dan McCarney.

It's funny, because I actually like Dan McCarney, but he had glaring weaknesses as a head coach that just did not work out in a BCS conference.

It was painfully obvious to most, even fans of DMac, that it was time to move on.

    Your narrow mindedness is amazing.

As much as I liked DMac, it was obvious he was never going to get over the hump. I love what he did building our program up to a level we hadn't seen in ages.

But the fact is you ignore the following:
-Couldn't take advantage of a weak north
-Didn't place an emphasis on special teams
-Sat on leads, and lost them consistently (funny thing is that was the only thing he did consistently)
-Didn't get rid of crap coordinators
-Hyped up recruiting classes, that ended up ******* themselves down the legs

Those are the responsibilities of the HEAD COACH. That is why people have some "anger" towards DMac.

Re: North Texas Game & Tailgate to Watch Coach Mac

If coach Mac would have finished half the games out that we had the lead going into the fourth or just flat out was a close game he would still be our football coach. He was a great coach at developing players. Imagine where we would be today if the 2005 team won our three overtime games and not played the worst game of their life fumbling in the endzone against Baylor and just flat out looking terrible that game .... But I guess that comes with coaching. Also, he put us on the map again... Beating the Nebraskas, should have had a chance to beat Florida State etc. Much respect to Coach Mac. He always had us within reaching length it felt like.

Sorry, I am feeling feisty today.

The Baylor loss in 2005 comes down to recruiting again. If we had a decent backup that year instead of Coleman we probably would have won that game and possibly more that season.

Our quality depth under DMac was usually an issue. He could pull in some decent starters, but often they would have to play the whole game (specifically the defense) and were gassed by the fourth quarter. A lot of times the two deeps were filled out by in-state recruits that were either walk-ons or should have been.

We have some depth issues now under CPR, but it's still better than after 12 years under DMac. I would kill to have had our current RB depth in 2005.

Re: North Texas Game & Tailgate to Watch Coach Mac

First off, KUDOS to the people who truly understand what a terrible idea this truly is.

You know if these people want to go and pay homage, that is fine. BUT there is absolutely NO way that this should be done under the direction of the Iowa State Alumni Association. If they want to get together and go, then do it informally. But for the ISUAA to sponser, and arrange this trip is absolutely sending a message that is damaging to the programs at Iowa State.

A sea of red in the UNT stadium? But you can't get enough interest to get a bus to go to Waco, three hours away for an IOWA STATE game? How on earth does that make sense to anyone.

There needs to be SERIOUS changes in priorities in that club, this is an embarrassment.

Of course the people that are more loyal to danno than Iowa State are in favor of this. But do people even read, and comprehend, what they write? Do they even understand the implications and impact of this type of stupidity?

And then nobody calls creighton, not clone, on his comment on the iowa creighton game calling attention to the "common enemy" just who is that? And the like minded "people" like tornado....Just who are they for in this?
