Cyclones have depth at running back

Re: Cyclones have depth at running back
Should we expect to lose someone over the next year due to lack of playing time? If we don't, I think it says a great deal about how much the players enjoy the coaches and the Cyclone community.

I wouldn't say that. I think that the staff plans on finding some creative ways to use all of these guys. Pope was very enthusiastic about the future of this position at Iowa State.

Nealy/Standard on bubble screens? -

It sounds like the backfield could get very crowded next year and if we don't lose anyone to transferring or injury that would be great.
With all the depth they could easily run two back sets.

Re: Cyclones have depth at running back
I'm really hoping that Nealy can turn into a great slot receiver type of guy where he can catch short passes/screens and also get some handoffs as end arounds or motioning into the backfield. Sorta like how Florida used Percy Harvin. Of course its all speculation based off of his high school highlight tapes, but I think he would fit that role nicely, and I think Herman could come up with some really creative ways to use a guy like that in his offensive system.

If someone does decide to transfer due to lack of playing time, that just means that we have better players on the team. However, I would prefer that did not happen in order to keep the depth at the position.

With all the depth they could easily run two back sets. we haven't run a successful 2 back set in a long time, I've forgotten what that looks like. -

Re: Cyclones have depth at running back
I hope that both Fresh can RS, I wish Hollis would move to Safety(future Sims), with 4 deep there all SO ahead of him it makes me wonder what will happen. I could see Woody possible moving to LB over time with his size and our lack of depth there.....

I think his carries may taper off after Standard and Nealy start getting reps but he is going to get you tough yards, something our stable of smaller backs might struggle with. I would rather have White or Hollis move to D, only because I am really high on Standard and Nealy (especially Standard). With Shontrell, Woody, Hollis, White, Nealy and Standard there will not be enough footballs to go around. I expect that not all 6 will stay at RB at ISU. I just hope that we find a position for them rather than have them transfer. in threory
