How do you vote no? I hope it's severe, tired of powerhouses being caught every year. Of course it needs to be proven, but I feel relatively convinced that there is truth in it.

The question is have they had major infractions in the past five years? If not, then no, according to the rule they cannot be punished under the "repeat violator" rule, so called the "death penalty".

Their baseball team had major infractions in 2004 or 5, so if these took place from 02-10, they fall into the 5 year window of an atheletic department having major violations, so the death penalty can come into play.......although unlikely. More likely reduced scholarships and no bowl games for 3 years.

I respect your opinion, but I don't know how the game's integrity isn't changed when some teams can pay* players and therefore get better players than teams that don't pay 'em. Besides, if they are getting paid they are no longer eligible college athletes.

*The pay can be money or some other benefit of value outside of the rules.

Same here. I've been a Miami fan since I was a youngster. I had really hoped that the bad days were behind them. One thing is clear, Larry Coker had no control over his team and it shames me to think that this was going on under Shannon as well. I voted for "yes", simply because they knew exactly what was going on and did nothing about it...FOR 8 YEARS!!!
The real loser in all of this is Al Golden. I doubt he ever takes the UofM job had he known that they were essentially just a bad professional team.

Re: does miami deserve the death penalty?

I voted no, but NCAA president Mark Emmert is apparently considering it:

Bad timing for Miami? NCAA in crackdown mode

Asked if a return to the "death penalty" – shutting down a program for a year or more, a sanction already in the books but used only once against a major-college program (Southern Methodist in 1987) – would serve that purpose, he (Mark Emmert) said, "We need to make sure that we've got, for the committee on infractions, all the tools they need to create those kinds of deterrents. "If that includes the death penalty, I'm fine with that."

Basically if a freshman gets busted taking money he can't be eligible for the NFL draft for 5 years.... his 3 years left in college and then the 2 year penalty in addition from the NFL. You make rules that seriously put a kids NFL opportunity at risk... you put a serious clamp on this dirty crap going on. Is a car, a couple thousand dollars, a prostitute, some free alcohol, etc... worth risking a potential future income of millions of dollars in the NFL?
The NFL is not going to do that. The NFL is about making money and keeping good players from enhancing their product is not in their best interest. That is just not happening.

If all that was implied to be going on, was, then yes, they do.

Re: does miami deserve the death penalty?

deserve it?? H#!! YES !!! Get it ?? Probably not. If it was a question of a fraction of those allegations and a school like ISU it wouldn't be a question. It would happen--and probably be justified by some "experts" with comments like "They aren't going to be impacted anyway, nor is the conference or CFB in general because they're not an elite or even good program." But the program that already has an advantage in recruiting due to location will be let off b/c of $$$.

Need to make an example out of them, I am not sorry they deserve it big time!!! If the NCAA does not bring the hammer down hard then the ncaa is a joke of an organization which is anyway, but furthers this even more. Cheaters never win right? Or do they?
