Re: Good article about the Cy-Hawk trophy
great article and I love the idea of honoring Trice & Kinnick on it, that is an idea that someone should be taking seriously.

Re: Good article about the Cy-Hawk trophy
Great article. I heard an idea that both Trice and Kinnick should be posed coming out of a cornfield together ala "Field of Dreams" That would be my favorite

"It’s obvious that corn had to be a part of the new design because Iowa Corn now sponsors the trophy."
If this is the case, we'll never have a tradition-in-itself trophy. I would nearly guarantee that Iowa Corn will not be the sponsor of the game in 15 years. (not for anything other than that's how things tend to go these days). So the next trophy will have to be a Chevy when the Iowa Chevy dealers sponsor the next one? Then a pork chop when the pork promotions board takes over? Then a box of geritol when they pony up the dough?
I could understand corn being a part of the trophy, corn is a big part of Iowa. I could see the same thing with hogs. But there's a limit. There's nothing football related with this trophy, and it will have to be chucked in the trash when the next sponsor takes over because it's ONLY corn. And corny.

We might as well play for this. -

I find it real arrogant that Iowa Corn tries to advertise corn more than the football game on the trophy. Bush league on all accounts.

I went from thinking that trophy was funny, to borderline offensive...and now after reading that, I am actually a little sad they didn't use the opportunity to makes something with Trice and Kinnick. Both are great stories, and the opportunity to ptu them on the trophy was wasted. Sad actually.

Re: Good article about the Cy-Hawk trophy
I think Iowans are generally known for doing the right thing, or at least tyring. I wish Iowa Corn would just do the right thing and change it to something with Trice/Kinnick on the trophy. They would get a lot of positive press for it.

I think the right thing (even though I don't like it) is to leave the CyHawk alone and simply put their name on it.

What I learned from the article is that people from Minnesota are racist. I didnt know the story behind Floyd of Rosedale.

Which is another thing about it — if it's called Cy-Hawk, it should feature Cy and Herky.
I'm sure $$ are going to force the hand with this, but considering it's almost universally reviled, it isn't too late for a different design — it officially hasn't been used yet. Go without a trophy this season and come up with 3 alternate prototypes.

If anyone hasn't, I'd suggest reading the Jack trice story, I felt about every emotion. Here's a good version from ESPN during black history month. ISU only I-A school to honor African-American in stadium name - ESPN
