"The Corn Cup"
I've been thinking about a cool trophy for the ISU/Iowa series and couldn't stop talking about it a work with co-workers the last couple days. The consensus at work was keep it simple and everyone was talking about somehow incorporating corn. Lots of ideas about having a giant ear of corn, or have a giant ear of corn on the trophy etc. Everyone agreed that it needs to be traditional, simple and represent the state of Iowa and our farm heritage. We talked about other cool trophy's like floyd of rosedale, telephone trophy, Slab of Bacon, The Stanley Cup, etc.
After some thought and looking at trophies on line, The Idea of "The Corn Cup" came to mind. It would be a combination of The Stanley Cup, The Orange Bowl Trophy with the Cup portion, styled after a bushel basket made of either Silver like The Stanley Cup or glass like the fed ex orange bowl trophy(like Kirk is standing next to below). It would be filled with a dozen or so, shucked ears golden Iowa Corn (like the orange bowl trophy is filled with oranges).
Also on the sidelines sitting next to "The Corn Cup" could be a 2 or 3 bushel baskets with about 150 ears of corn for players and coaches to grab and take out of the stadiums as a souvenir.
Its great the Iowa Corn growers are sponsoring the series and like the fact they're providing a new trophy. "The Iowa Corn Cup" seems to fit nicely. They could even keep the base similar to that of the new trophy.

Or get Corn Nuts to sponsor it as well, could be the Corn Nut-Cup. -
Re: "The Corn Cup"
I think I'd stay away from the "Corn" theme.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. -
Re: "The Corn Cup"
hmmm.. no. next idea please

Re: "The Corn Cup"
I would support your primary idea of having a large, nicely designed bushel basket on top of the new podium. I'm all for keeping it simple and traditional, but not generic...I think your idea would accomplish that.
I don't think I really like the idea of bushels of corn hanging around on the sidelines for "souvenirs" though. I could deal with it in the actual cup.
Someone brought this idea up in the main thread, too. It doesn't look like we are going to stay away from the corn idea...this is the ICGA we are talking about...they love corn. I would be shocked if they came up with a new design that didn't somehow incorporate corn. Might as well deal with the best of it, and a bushel basket cup would be a-ok in my book. It would provide the most opportunity for the trophy to grow and develop. But there are other ideas floating around here that are ok too. The point is that almost ANYTHING with half a brain of thought is better than this POS.

Re: "The Corn Cup"
Why are people so afraid of corn. Its what our state is known for for crying out loud.

Re: "The Corn Cup"
I like the idea it is similar to what I was thinking would work well. Add a football that is permanent in the middle and have real shucked corn put in the basket around the football. Or I like the other idea that has been toss around with the Jack-Nile concept. Kyle S. Flander -
Re: "The Corn Cup"
They should take a football and cast it in bronze, but instead of the normal texture of the football, replace it with the texture of corn kernels. From a distance it would look like just a normal football, but on closer inspection you'll see the tie to Iowa.
As a Iowa native, I have no problem with corn. Corn is f'ing awesome.

I like the idea of a corn cup- can we add little statuettes of Trice & Kinnick on the corners or something?

I like the idea of incorporating Trice & Kinnick, would rather see them on the trophy rather than the current logos. Keep it very traditional almost like its from the turn of the 20th century. I realize the corporate side, would probably not allow it to be completely vintage.

Re: "The Corn Cup"
Should have a bronze statue with a depiction of Jack Trice and Nile Kinnick in their uniforms shaking hands at midfield.

If there is a corporate side to your trophy, you don't have a trophy. Any sponsor who thinks their business should be first and foremost on a trophy shouldn't sponsor a BCS rivalry trophy. If the Corn Growers want to put their name on the trophy that's great but we already have the trophy.
The NC trophy isn't a giant soda can and the Orange Bowl trophy isn't a giant orange. Floyd of Rosedale wasn't created by the Iowa Pork Producers and the Telephone Trophy wasn't started by AT&T.
Make this thing a Governor's Trophy, a Trice-Kinnick Trophy or just keep the one we have.

Good idea though.
