Re: Guyer injured..."Mahoney doing nothing to take job from him"
This whole thing makes me feel really uneasy...if we are going bowling it's going to be on the back of several close games. Games no doubt decided by our kicking game.
Re: Guyer injured..."Mahoney doing nothing to take job from him"
I love the whole staff's attitude when it comes to talking to the press. They sugar coat nothing and actually have emotion (excitement) when talking about this year's team. They're the reason I feel confident that these guys will go bowling this year.
Re: Guyer injured..."Mahoney doing nothing to take job from him"
"Zach Guyer has been out with a groin strain, so he hasn’t gotten a chance to compete in the last week. But Grant Mahoney has done nothing to take that job away from him.”
It sounds like Guyer is the "starter" for now. He said Mahoney hasn't taken it from him (Guyer).

This is all about motivation for Grant.
How can you possibly feel comfortable with a kicker having missed 8 of 9 FG's to end the season including two routine, back-breaking misses against MU.
I can't think of a single kicker who had lost his confidence and performed this poorly suddenly "get it back". I'd rather have a kicker that can make the 30 and 40 yarders look routine instead of someone that can kick a 55 yarder one series and miss two in a row from 29 and 35 yards. That's Mahoney. That's what he does. If he does get the job, either by performance or injury default, we will pay for it. There's still an important role for him. Kickoffs, long FG attempts, etc.

Sad... but I can't think of a kicker that hasn't gone off the rails as far as accuracy goes during their career. Ty Stewart might be the only one in my memory that didn't.
