I'm not a Hawkeye fan, but I've got to admit this is pretty neat

Pretty amazing story. True bond between man and dog.

Saw the idea on Twitter earlier today. Even as an Iowa State Fan, I think this is something Iowa needs to do.

That's outstanding. Hats off for a great show of respect.

Doesn't the SEAL have a Texas Longhorn shirt on in the picture by his casket?

They should think about having Hawkeye lead out the Iowa team at JT for the Iowa/ISU game. I think Cyclones and Hawkeyes alike would like to honor Jon. My buddy from Rockford who went back for the funeral is a Cyclone.
By the way, I saw a comment after the story saying don't assume Jon was a Hawkeye fan; the dog was just named after the state. My buddy tells me that Jon was a HUGE Hawk fan and there is no question where Hawkeye got his name.
On second thought, it might not be a good idea in JT since there is always even more booing than usual when the Hawkeye football team takes the field. It might be misinterpreted. "There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr -

just because he has on a Texas t-shirt doesn't mean he is a fan, I own a Texas t-shirt but I dont like them, just a cool t-shirt...Hope Iowa does this it is a very touching story

It's a nice honor for the SEAL but I don't think it helps the dog out. He just wants his buddy back.

Yes they should do it, no they shouldnt do it at the ISU game, This should be done in IC

No disrespect here, but I didn't read in the article anywhere where Jon Tulmison went to the UofI. Glad he was a fan and if that's it, so be it. Should let it rest and let the Hawks PR team do their thing.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought, cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives….. -

I thought I read somewhere that he was indeed a Hawk fan, but it wasn't from a real source, just message boards. If that were the case, perhaps he was stationed somewhere in Texas for awhile, and just adopted them as his second team? I don't know, just a possibility.
That photo is just gut-wrenching, though.

I hope they do this and who cares if he was hawk fan or not. Respect people

Honestly, I couldn't care less what team he roots for. He is an American hero and that's all that matters to me.

Touching story.
But I don't think that is a good name for a dog(or anything for that matter).
