and I think there is reason to think they do. I think Texas & OU like it feeling it is less competitive than a SEC, Big 10 or even PAC 10. It also has a lot of schools that know they can't make it without them so they will do whatever their told.
After Notre Dame says no, it looks like BYU is next or a package offer. But they should know the pulse and whether the 16 team leagues are coming or not. If they are coming and want the current Big 12 to be in one poach the best of the Big East/maybe an ACC team or two now to whatever amount they need. At least they have some markets with population. If Texas & OU want to remain in a conference they can be the 4th super-conference or force a 5th one. They won't be left out.
Picking some teams from Pitt, Louisville, Ga. Tech, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, UCONN, Syracuse, Rutgers wouldn't be too bad especially for ISU we would probably be in a division with these Eastern schools for football.
This couldn't have been posted in any one of a hundred or so threads on this very topic that have been created over the last year?
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
If Texas wants to keep the league???? What about the lowly rest of us?
For what it is worth, Dan Beebe should have been fired long ago for letting this get to this point. As soon as Nebraska and Colorado bolted, the Big XII should have been going hard and heavy for BYU and whomever to maintain a 12 team league and championship game. It pains me to say it but The Big XII should have been using, and following the Big 10 model for a TV network... TO SELL THE CONFERENCE.
The leagues leadership, TV deals, bowl alignments are all sub par, hell they are sub WAC or MAC.
In the last 20 years there have been 23 teams identified as National Champions in Football
(3 years had 2 teams prior to BCS)
Big XII - 5
Nebraska: 1997 (s) - 1995 - 1994
Pac 10 - 3
USC: 2004 - 2003 (s)
Washington: 1991 (s)
Big 10 - 2
Ohio State: 2002
Michigan: 1997 (s)
ACC - 2
Florida State: 1999 - 1993
Big East - 2
Miami: 2001 - 1991 (s)
In the last 50 years only 1 school not named Notre Dame and not a member of a BCS Conference has been crowned National Champions... BYU 1984. In those 50 years several titles were shared, but this is the breakdown by current conference alignment
