Here's the story: On Wednesday, my wife and my abnormally social 2-year-old daughter were playing at a local park here in Ankeny. An older gentleman walked by and, of course, my daughter couldn't resist yelling HI! The gentlemen says hi back, walks a bit further, then stops as he notices my wife's car (adorned with ISU plates).
"Is that your car?" he asked. My wife answers yes and the old man says, "Well, I'm going to come talk to you some more then." He then introduces himself. "My name is Cecil Rhoads, Paul Rhoads' dad." My wife and Cecil chat a bit, then she mentions that her husband is a die-hard Cyclone fan. That's when my wife (thanks to my daughter) got the inside scoop from Cecil. "Tell your husband I was at practice yesterday, and it was by far the best practice I've seen in Paul's time at Iowa State."
I about died when my wife told me that story. I love living in central Iowa, so close to the University and team that I love. Heck, today as I was leaving work in Ames I saw Wally jaywalk across University Ave right in front of me on his way over to practice at the field of dreams.
