Re: ***OFFICIAL IOWA STATE TO THE BIG EAST THREAD***
I'm not sure what is in the bylaws, so I don't know where the breaking point is for when we no longer seem to exist as a conference. I'm talking in the legal sense, not the "are they any good and does anybody care about them" sense. Usually it's when you lose OVER half your members, we have 10 now, so as long as 5 hold out we might still be a conference and exit fees are in force.
SMU and a couple others are chomping at the bit to get in, take their applications to show we will have enough members if we choose to continue and then rewrite the exit fees (or by that time ESPN and others will have knocked our TV contract down and we can justify lower exit fees) and walk out. A lot of hoops, but for 30 million you can set them unfire for me.
Plus, we can at least get a little redemption knowing that we stuck it to the Texas boys a little. Kinda like the one thread comparing this to prision rape, at least they catch something from us for doing it.

Re: ***OFFICIAL IOWA STATE TO THE BIG EAST THREAD***
Texas runs the conference, they won't pay anything and neither will the schools leaving with them

Re: ***OFFICIAL IOWA STATE TO THE BIG EAST THREAD***
We dont need to play one more year. If they leave, all we have to do is survive one more day without them. We get lined up to the BE, let them leave, one day later keep TV money and go shut it down. Amazingly release a conference schedule with BE schools and start new conference.
Going to be tough, but a chance

Re: ***OFFICIAL IOWA STATE TO THE BIG EAST THREAD***
Why is the big 10 not looked at? They will eventually need to go to 16+ teams. Why not look at the angle too?

Re: ***OFFICIAL IOWA STATE TO THE BIG EAST THREAD***
B10 has Iowa, we don't bring enough to B10, just have to split revenues in a state they already have presence.

Let's not pretend that Pollard hadn't looked at every angle. The Big 10 wasn't looking to save us last year. Why would they this year?

If I remember correctly from June, 2010, to dissolve the conference requires 2/3 vote (I think, or at least half of the members +1). If four bolt to the 12 Pac, and Aggies go SEC, then there's still enough members to not dissolve the conference, thus letting the forgotten 5 collect the exit fees.

KU/KSU/ISU to the Big East. Let's hope so...if they go P12 instead of Tech, I don't like our chances to get in the BE if they only take 3. I think they'd go KU, KSU, & Tech. I know KSU shouldn't get the nod over ISU, but I just think they would for some unjustifiable reason.

Memphis only had 23K, but they play in a large stadium (Liberty Bowl) and it would be an upgrade, but this would be a basketball move for them.
Scheduling-
FB - 2 8-team divisions - play 7 games in division and 2 outside. rotate the outside games every year, so you play each team every four years and play at each location every 8 years.
BB - 4 6-team divisions - play 10 games (home-away) in division and play 1 other division (6 games) each year. Rotate the division you play. You will play each team outside division every 3 years and play at each location every 6 years.
Tournament - Seed based on division finish because of unbalanced schedule and also can help ensure that you play team from outside division in tournament. All 24 in tournament for 7 day tournament. Either quadruple bye or traditional format.
Here are divisions:

Love it even more that ISU would play within 1.5 hours of Chicago 3 times a year! That is a SALTY division, but DePaul has been about as bad as can be for almost a decade.

Actually, I don't know if this is fact or not, but I read the BE has to announce its teams by Sept 14 or somewhere around there before final negotiation of their TV contract. I think if we are included it would need to be known by then.

That's just how i kind of see it playing out.
Also adding ISU, KU and KSU to the BE make the conference any better at football? The BE is a laughing stock when it comes to BCS and bowl season. Wouldn't be suprised if the BCS kicks the BE out, then you have the Big 10, SEC, Pac-12 and ACC as the four conferences in the BCS.

So maybe the minimum number of remaining schools could be 3. Big12 bylaws -

RE Baylor: I don't think they get the call unless the Big East looks to go beyond 12, which wouldn't shock me one bit.
I could see all the Big 12 leftover plus ECU/UCF ending up there and it going to 16.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
