Jantz’s Houdini act leads Cyclones to victory

    Fanatics,

Here's my story from tonight's Iowa State victory. Steele Jantz made the plays when the Cyclones needed it the most.

It was a good write up. Very spot on and hopefully we will continue to see steady improvements with Steele.

I think you will. Coaches always say - and I know it's a cliché - that the most improvement comes between weeks 1 and 2. I'd like to think Steele will be more confident at the start of next week's game after that last 5 minutes.

I wish that I could have seen the game. I see that on the UNI fan site they are saying that Jantz is "a step away from the special olympics." I was a bit worried when it took so long for them to declare him the starter over Tiller. Then, suddenly he was the man all along? Does that have something to do with Tiller being ineligible? Sounds to me like he was horrible most of the time but came up with the goods when the game was on the line and a la The Replacements ... he wanted the ball when the game was on the line ... This is promising to have someone who looks like he's a winner. Let's hope that the weather and first game jitters took its toll and he will improve.

Most UNI fans are just being ****s about it. God knows they played better and were the more deserving team (of course that didn't keep me from telling a few of the fans that I'd see them again next weekend) but Jantz stepped up and came up clutch when we REALLY needed him. He needs some time, but I think he's gonna be a good, if not great one.

He seemed to get better as the game went on. Once he realized he didnt have a line to block for him and that only 2 recievers could catch the ball he got better. He has great vision and can make things happen. He just needs to get comfortable.

The key to this entire article "For three quarters, Jantz played worse than below-average football."

Very, very true. But that was some of the worst offensive line play I've ever seen while covering Iowa State. Jantz was running for his life, yet still had the composure to bring the team back when they needed him the most. Give credit where it is due.

Crazy thing is we only gave up 1 tackle for loss. That was the sack by Boothby where he made a sweet swipe move right up the middle. That goes to show how mobile and aware Jantz is.
