Re: Why don't we drop UNI
Hey Im alumni of both ISU and UNI and they need the cash badly right now. I'll you one thing we know alot about what we can do compared to what Iowa knows right now. UNI always comes to play and typically push us recently, Mark Farley is a hell of a coach and exposed plenty of weaknesses, weaknesses that has everybody in the programs attention right now. Tennessee Tech didnt show Iowa anything except Marcus Coker may be a touch overrated. UNI should schedule Iowa and ISU every year, keep money in the state.

Re: Why don't we drop UNI
Though, as a counterpoint to what i said above, in 09 we sold 49k for North Dakota State.
UNI sells well, but september sales are usually fairly good regardless. And you have to keep in mind that the additional UNI tickets are mostly hillsides, which are worth a bit less than your average ticket.

Re: Why don't we drop UNI
There are a ton of reasons why we should keep playing UNI. First of all, I love the game. Its kind of a rivalry game. A lot of ISU students and Alum obviously know a lot of UNI people, making for a great way to get together and tailgate and meet up.
The game always has a great crowd.
UNI is a great warm up for our schedule.
UNI is a team that will give ISU or Iowa their best shot.
College football is based on rivalries!! If we didn't play Iowa, UNI, Nebraska, K-state, missouri, etc. Who would we play? We would just be playing various opponents and winning and losing games. Kind of hard to describe, but college football is all about tradition and old rivalry games and playing teams geographically close to you and trash talking and bragging rights. Without all of that all your left with is ... playing some big east team.

UNI does draw big crowds to JTS, but at times I wonder why we schedule a top 10 FCS school and not a "Tennessee Tech" (sub .500 FCS school.)

Re: Why don't we drop UNI
While there may be some UNI fans that root for ISU when we're not playing each other, my point was most UNI fans are truly Hawk lovers (MOST UNI FANS...not all).
Listening to UNI/UI fans claim that we should've lost that game last night gets tiresome. Even when we beat UNI 27-0, their coach, fans, UI fans claim they gave us the game.
It is pretty sad that are biggest gates come against UNI. Timing does play into it, but our biggest gates should be coming against Mizzou, K-State, etc.

Students gone, weather frigid. Missouri in september might draw a nice crowd.

Will never happen with a 9 game conference schedule when we already have Iowa in our noncon. A shame too, as id love to have a series with Minnesota. (of course this all plays into the fact that if it weren't about tv $$, we'd be a great addition to the big 10)

Re: Why don't we drop UNI
I find it ironic that last year, UNI gave us the game when they turned it over so many times, and this year, they should have beaten us after we turned it over, what 4 or 5 times. Seems to me you cannot have it both ways. I think if you average the two years out, with turnovers and points, we were about 14 points better than UNI both years. Should we limit the frequency in which we play them? That is a numbers game of number additional tickets we sell when playing them verses the amount of money we pay them compared to what we would have to pay to play a different FCS team. Plus the local media hype cannot hurt either.

Re: Why don't we drop UNI
We just had a complete sellout on day in which it rained all the way up to kickoff. We can barely get 25,000 people when we have a chance to win the big12 north, and you want to drop easy money?

I Have No Issue with Playing UNI
UNI has a quality FCS program and they help sell tickets - IMO this is a win/win for ISU.
I know some folks feel that ISU has nothing to win and everything to lose in playing UNI. IMO if our coaches can't evaluate and develop talent to beat UNI 80-90% of the time, then the Big 12 season is going to be really long.
I thought the game day atmosphere was great last night, I just wish we didn't have to sweat out the win.
IMO the perfect non-con schedue is Iowa, UNI and a MAC program.

I do know that this thread doesn't exist if we would have won by 20 points.

Should be an easy win to start the season.
