Yeah, I don't think that he has a RS available. He MAY petition for a 6th year, but that only really happens when a player misses a majority of two years with injury. So, if he were to get hurt next year and miss a majority of the games, he COULD get an extra year...if he still has the ability to play. I would guess that he has a long winter and spring of rehab in front of him and he'll be pretty close to 100% by the first game next season as a SR. No way he plays this spring though. From the sound of it, Knott will probably end up missing the spring too if he has surgery right after the season.
Didn't Tyson Smith get a medical redshirt for a broken leg or something a few years back? I believe it was for a 6th year if I'm not mistaken. What makes his situation different than Rosey's?
I don't think you have to be injured two years to get a medical redshirt. You just have to miss like all but 2 games or less due to an injury and have already used a regular redshirt.

But maybe that is only if you haven't used a redshirt yet, but played in a game and wouldn't be allowed a regular redshirt.Quote:
A special case involves the eligibility of a player who loses the majority of a season to injury. Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted an athlete who appears in fewer than 30% of his or her team's competitions (with none coming after the midway point of the season), then suffers a season-ending injury. A player who is granted such a waiver is treated for the purposes of their eligibility as though he or she had not competed in that season.
Was Rashawn Parker a true senior when he got hurt in 2009?
I've seen o-lineman play a full season without an ACL. As long as the movement is mainly forward and backward and the knee is braced properly its possible. Side to side, and explosive plants in the opposite direction, not going to happen. Tough deal for all involved, Roosey in particular. Any chance at a medical redshirt?
As someone pointed out above Hines Ward plays without an ACL... news to me but I beleive it. That guys muscles surrounding the ACL have to work overtime to support the lack of, pretty incredible.
Correct me if I'm wrong- but I remember hearing Jake Sullivan played most of his college career with two torn ACLs.
This one sucks IMO. I wish we would have gotten his bro even more now. He'd be playing right now. David Irving could very well see time during the year now. Wish that wasnt the case. I was hoping him and Pompey would be in the same class.
Walking doesn't place much demand or stress on the ACL and some don't even feel much pain when it goes, just the give and pop. When that is the case often the athlete will be able to walk without problems.
Exactly, for someone in Rosie's situation the lack of internal stability will be a huge detriment as he uses his speed and agility to pressure the QB with rapid stops/starts and cuts.
Hopefully, he can get the medical redshirt and get started on his recovery. Best wishes on a speedy full recovery Mr. Maggitt.
