Now if we could only recruit place kickers as well as we recruit punters - I mean, Brandtner (am I thinking of the right guy?) was a beast as well...
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

What I meant by that comment is that NFL teams are not going to hopping over each to grab a punter in the draft.

He is only a punter. I prefer he just keeps hanging out on the sidelines during games.

On another note. I hope a lot of posters here are eating crow. I remember when he was offered the scholarship and hadn't punted in high school and posters we're freaking out.
Further shows that coaches know better then anyone here.

Re: Van Der Kamp
Not only are his avg yardages great, but on his seven punts for the year the opposition has zero return yards. That might even be a greater stat than distance he's getting. Must have really worked hard on his directional kicking in the offseason.

Net punting average is the big one. Punting from midfield and giving them the ball at the 5 vs a touchback is a BIG difference. A 50 yard punt with a 30 yard net isn't nearly as sweet as a 45 yard punt that nets 45 yards.

Your saying all of his punts went through the end zone? If so, I would agree but I don't really remember.

Reading may help you someday.

When I read the UCONN coach's comments about them having trouble fielding punts, I thought that they are really going to have trouble with ours. Not only may this flip the field for us, but it may lead to some precious turnovers.

Re: Van Der Kamp
For the record, Van Der Kamp is currently 8th in the country with a 46.3yd net punt average (2011 NCAA Division I-A College Football Team Statistics Leaders for Punting - ESPN)
Last year he ranked 11th in the country with a 41.8yd net average.

Re: Van Der Kamp
He is a great weapon for us, and let's hope that we don't need him to be as much of one as he could! But realistically, he will be invaluable as we get into the Big 12. It's a great comfort to have someone so solid, reliable and just plain great at punter.

Re: Van Der Kamp
definitely has had a great season so far. Doubt that he is going pro after next year
Two favorite teams, the Cyclones, and whoever is playing the Hawkeyes!
