Van Der Kamp
I haven't seen his name mentioned much. Man, what a weapon he's been. Averaging 51.3 on seven punts so far. Four of his seven punts have been inside the 20. His punt in the 2nd quarter against Iowa was huge. They were rolling on offense. We went three and out for the second straight series, down 10-0. He pins them on their five yard line with a 55 yarder. Our defense locks down and gets a big sack by Nelson. That seemed to at least stabilize the momentum if not shift it back in our direction.
He averaged 45.2 as a freshman last year. Nice to know we still have him for two more years. You can make a case for him being runner-up MVP after these first two games.

Re: Van Der Kamp
he is one of our best weapons for sure. the guy can totally flip the field.

Re: Van Der Kamp
I'm not convinced we'll have him past 2012. The guy is NFL quality right now.

I always worry!

Re: Van Der Kamp
Definitely agree, crazy to think how bad he was early in his Freshmen year, especially against Iowa last year......

I always worry! Last year only two kickers/punters were drafted, and one of them was Alex Henery, who was, quite simply, a beast. K/P don't leave college early. The likelihood of them being drafted is too low to make the risk worth it.

And thank you Stumpy for this: -

Re: Van Der Kamp
If we get to the days that punters leave early for college, it might be time to quit.

He could be a key factor in the outcome on Friday night. Both defenses could be tough to score against, with field position determining who ends up coming away with a victory.

Re: Van Der Kamp
NFL draft talk aside, he's been fantastic for us. Punted well last year and was big in converting a fake punt.
This year he absolutely gave UNI nothing for field position and that played a huge role in our win. Punted well again vs Iowa.
Consistent. Predictable. Results.
I like it.

He and the punt unit are doing a great job. Field position is key and we have one of the best around, hope he continues to punt the ball well.

Kirby has gotten our DEFENSE out of trouble by not allowing the opposition to start on short fields! That change of field position is HUGE! I would take Kirby right now over ANY other previous Cyclone punter including Brantner! hes a BIG weapon for us! maybe U should get to know the game of football a little bit more before you say "....but he's only a punter."
