I don't want to keep bringing up the Iowa game cause I know we need to move on and focus on Uconn but Im listening to Murph and Andy and I have heard a bunch if talk about why Iowa didn't take advantage of the "mismatches" Iowa's receivers had over our corners. I understand the obvious height advantage but I don't think enough credit has been given to our corners in covering them all day (i.e. Reeves makes a fanastic play on the pass to McNutt). Reeves and LJ are great corners and did a great job taking stuff away. JMHO

I was very surprised McNutt didn't have a good game and IIRC, his first catch game near the end of the 3rd quarter or early 4th.
IMO, Iowa stuck to the run a bit too much. I think their gameplan was smart - but once we really began to stack the line they should have threatened us deep.
It worried me when they began to pass more consistently as it seemed like they had success with it. I think had they gone a bit more to the air, the game could have turned out differently.
Our defense has also been very week it over the past few years as it relates to defending a slot receiver, notably on the quick out routes. Iowa got us for one or two of those - but that was it.
That said, our secondary did a great job of making it difficult. I just still think there were some plays to be had in the passing game. Perhaps KF didn't want the QB position to be the reason they lost the game.
Vandenberg was quoted as saying that Iowa's philosophy was to never force it. So if our DB's were consistently in effective tight coverage, it is difficult to exploit the height advantage much without forcing it or it being perceived that way by your coaches.
"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr
Iowa's (KF's) philosophy is not to throw to anyone who is not wide open.
I've alway felt Iowa's sucess at putting players into the NFL at every positon except QB revolves around the fact that they are not used to throwing into small windows.
I thought our D-backs did a great job on Iowas recievers. Some QBs might have had success throwing into that type of coverage but not Iowa's.
