Re: More James White! More James White!
I think the only problem Woody has is the only time he seems to get the ball is when he comes in on 3rd and 1 and everyone in the stadium knows he is going to get the ball. If he is going to get carries in that situation, I would prefer going under center, with a fullback and him in the I. Like Ryan Koch against Mizz.

No reason to revise history, Arob was a very good back for us... I think SJ can be even better though.
He was very good at finding small holes, but those jukes you talk I've never seen. Those longs runs were from great blocking, pretty much just straight sprints. I never said he wasn't good, he was better than a lot of the shiftier backs we played because he would actually find those holes.
Re: More James White! More James White!
I am not quite getting all of the White love here. I personally thought he looked pretty terrible against Iowa. He would get in behind his blockers (a good thing) but he would never turn it up field and would get tackled after 2/3 yards (bad thing).
SJ would follow his blockers and as soon as he saw a hole he was gone.
Stats (Iowa game)
SJ: 18 carrier 109 yds 6.0 per carry!!
JW 13 35 yds 2.7 yds per carry!!
How does that scream more carries??

If you are going to stick Kock in there, please spell his name right.
Re: More James White! More James White!
Just as a comparasin (not including receiving):
In 2010 ARob had 202 carries for 995 yards, 4.7 avg. per carry, 78.8 avg per game.
SJ (through 2 games 2011) has 27 carries for 135 yards, 5.0 avg per carry, 67.5 avg per game, Extrapolated out...that is 162 carries, 810 yards for the season.
If SJ has the same amount of carries as Arob he will need to average 17.5 carries per game for the rest of the year, but he would have 202 carries for 1,010 yards.

I would have to see the video again but I felt like there were times where 'Trelle was trying to string things out too much toward the sideline and was apprehensive about going north-south. Just thinking out loud and it was probably a vantage point thing but I don't want him to turn into Hicks, thinking he is Barry f'n Sanders all the time looking for the cutback lane on every play.
That said, love our backs. JW is solid but SJ will break you!

I was amazed how well our WRs blocked on those sideline runs. A few times, I saw Reynolds absolutely destroying his guy. Darks won the game for us with his dominating block in Triple OT.

I think it's pretty early to make that determination. Especially considering he did it pretty well at times last year.
Woody has had some of his best success running out of the pistol, against Texas in particular. He chewed up yards pretty well and ran clock. He is much better at hitting the hole when he is runing down hill and not running the zone read.
ISU will find ways to use Woody this year and we will be glad we have him. He just hasn't gotten many opprotunities to get rolling so far.

This. This is absolutely, with a doubt, a lot better than the last couple of years. Money & DD have blown up / dominated a few db's this year.

I think that it has simply now been a point of emphasis for the WR coach and his players. They take pride in it in their interviews.
Re: More James White! More James White!
Watching the broadcast on FSN, I couldn't understand why they kept referring to White as "the little guy" when he was in. He's only 1 inch shorter and 3 lbs lighter than SJ.

+1, totally different ball game running outside so far this year.

I don't see the need to insult ARob to compliment our current backs. ARob had a great burst, he just wore down at the end of his runs and got caught from behind. Either way, he's been the best back ISU has had since I was in college (2002) without a question.
