Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
That's not true. I know of a few examples where the victim did not ask to have charges pressed and the police still pressed charges.

Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
Thats right up there with Nebraska fans UConn. Nebbys are still worse, but they have never (to my knowledge) physically injured our mascot.

Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
How is there no video of this in this day and age? Seems like everytime some idiot throws a punch in the stands there are at least 5 people recording it with their cell phones.

Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
Not to hijack the thread, but there have been documented cases of people in Iowa City being put in the hospital over wearing ISU gear. The one that comes to mind is three guys assaulting a woman wearing ISU stuff, and a stranger that came to her assistance was beaten to the point he was hospitalized. Not saying that couldn't happen any where, but it has happened in and around the ped mall. I think they've cleaned up that area some, but a few years ago, it really wasn't a safe place to be. Honest question. -

I was hit in the side of the head with a full can of beer, thrown at full speed, while leaving Kinnick after our victory in 2002. It was the only ISU/IA night game at Kinnick and that place was just nasty. The Hawk fans had been drinking since early in the day and many left the stands to go back to drinking. My dad, who's a Hawk, was with me and he had been having chest pains/heart issues prior to the game and had already popped one of his pills. My only goal was to get the hell outta there without him getting worked up. Fans at Kinnick are happy as long as they're winning, if they lose...all bets are off. It's the same at most venues, tavern-???? fans dwell in all locales.

Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
I am not a litigation type of person, but wrongs need to be corrected and damaged individuals made whole. The people forced to leave the game for attempting to report the incident are very important. Further action from them may be very helpful in assuring an incident like this doesn't happen again soon.
I think Cy does deserve compensation for the medical costs and pain inflicted. However, this is an individual's choice.
A way to keep this in the public, and perhaps gain UCONN acknowledgement, is for the individuals "escorted" out of the stadium to sue for damages. They were only doing what I see as civil duty. For that they lost the value of their ticket, expenses to get to the game, and any "enjoyment" they get from attending sporting events. I think that UCONN, their rent-a-cops, and any individuals known to be responsible could be sued.

Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
i hope cy gets well, uconn publicly apologizes for kicking out fans reporting the incident, letting the fan responsible stay, and providing a generally unsafe environment along with some fines to the university as well would probably be enough maybe. I lived in Connecticut and those people are jerks, just how they are being an excuse for humans.
long live the big 12 and go state

Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
One of my staffers and his fiancé flew out to the game. The fiancé saw Cy get pushed and fall down what they estimated to be about a 4' drop. He turned and saw Cy under the steps clutching his arm. Security came over and he thinks they wrote some kind of ticket to the offending 'fan' (I'm using that term loosely here) and he was allowed to stay in the game. From his standpoint security appeared to be less than excited or desiring to really do anything. Afterwards, UCONN fans mocked Cyclone fans over the mascot situation.
On the way out of the game the people I know were verbally assaulted about classy things like threatened rape. He gave other examples of unacceptable behavior at the game too.
Forgive me for not knowing this, but do we have UCONN on future schedules? If so, this needs to change!

No ****! Classless fans if you ask me. Making fun of us after that game too? The only thing that was for funny for UCONN last night is that they lost to us when we had 3 TO's and only 3 yards in the 1st quarter. What a bunch of idiots.

What national websites have covered this? Besides the DM Register, I have only found it on deadspin: Did Some UConn Fans Break The Iowa State Mascot's Arm Last Night? -

Re: Cy mascot got a broken arm?
didn't realize this until i was reading Deadspin this morning and they quoted a few of yall. Bravo guys, we made the big time.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

They were here for the Iowa game this year and sat on the hillside.
