Summary: It was an accident guys. The poor kid tripped over stairs and fell down. No one at UCONN attacked him like some people claimed here.

BTW, congrats on the late comeback win. Your team held on while we are still looking for a QB.

Since we will probably be conference mates soon, congrats on being 3-0.
Great. Glad to hear it. Thanks for posting. Did this appear in print anywhere besides here?

I answered my own question. Here's the article that appeared in the online edition of the Courant today.

Iowa State Mascot Suffers Broken Arm At UConn Game Friday; Police Find No Foul Play - Courant.com

Everyone is satisfied except the guy who was pushed. His account (from facebook) printed here, does not jibe with the official statement offered at the top of this thread. Controversy remains.

Another story, attributed by a local fire official to state police, is that the mascot went into the stands to celebrate and his wing touched a student, who then pushed the mascot, who then fell.

Re: UCONN released statement on the mascot accident

OK, now I'm confused. We've got people telling us "he fell, it was an accident, there was no altercation", but we also had someone on the UCONN board stating that they witnessed an altercation between the mascot & a fan (allegedly, the mascot pushed the fan first in that story).

So which is it? Accident, a push that was a little harder than the fan intended it to be, or a hate crime committed by a vicious cardinalophobe?

(without any personal knowledge of the situation, I'm going to guess it's "door B", but I'll wait to hear from the one-winged bird himself before I make up my mind)

No, but it allowed me to bring up the Katy Perry concert. Please notice the Jimlad and the use of the stupid teen term "whatevs", and then relax.

Normally the truth is somewhere in between. Cy probably was pushed. The guy probably didn't mean for Cy to fall down some stairs and break his arm. Cy, being a decent guy, realized that he shouldn't have been pushed, but that the guy really didn't mean to hurt Cy and so Cy didn't want to press charges and see the guy suffer a felony over it all.

I think the police report is BS as is the UConn statement. It probably was something to the effect that all the "witnesses" said Cy fell. The police came up to Cy and said "from talking to everyone it sounds like you fell, so what happened?". Not wanting to get the guy in trouble and not wanting to fight with the police over the deal, Cy agreed. Probably the UConn statement is fairly correct based on the police report.

Also, there probably was a degree of doubt in Cy's head about whether he was actually pushed. From what I've heard Cy was turning and walking away when the guy pushed back. When something like that happens, everything is happening too fast and afterward you began to doubt it.

Re: UCONN released statement on the mascot accident

Lets see what the next few days bring in terms of what Cy and other sources say.
    !. I wish Cy a fast recovery.
    2. I would love to hear what he feels happened, when he can speak (legal constraints?)
    3. The first reports of any options like this are often wrong.
    4. On the reverse side, lets face it, at least at home, we do have CY's who get in the face of other fans and are touchy. While it is great for fans and we like it, I could also see someone not used to it reacting. (This is in no way defending anyone, just observations on past situations).
    Time will tell.
