ISU may not add TV sets but it would add viewers to the BTN. I think having both schools in the same conference would bring some fringe fans foward and create more buzz in the state, thus bring more viewers to the TV.
It would also create rivalries, and I believe this would create more viewers. I don't know about everyone but I would much rather watch a rivalry game than two schools from across the country.
If the Big East continues to get poached, can Notre Dame stand for its other sports to stay there? That could be enough for dominoes to fall, but I have no idea.
I don't think the B10 will choose ISU until there is a reason that they basically have to expand to 16 teams and the more preferred teams have incredible exit penalties. ISU doesn't bring enough money to the table to make up for splitting revenue by an additional school. The travel expenses due to geography would help our cause but that's about it.

I'm not buying this. More? Yes, but not numbers worth mentioning.
ISU has virtues that ISU fans can see but I'm not sure are good enough to sway people who don't give a crap. Maybe Pollard and Co. can sell ketchup popsicles to eskimos but I don't think the Big 10 will expand until Pollard and Geoffrey are gone.
Big Ten is the best case scenario if the Big 12 fizzles. However it is unlikely that the Big Ten will even look to expand and want Iowa State to join. It would be the best move for Iowa State but probably not the best move for the Big Ten to invite us in terms of $$$ which is all that matters anymore.
As has been said, the Big 10 is the only entity left that is likely to consider the qualities of an academic institution like ISU in a serious manner, but I'm doubtful it will be sufficient.
Rutgers is talking to the Big 10 too. It's reported in the Chicago Tribune. They will go Big 10 before ACC and the Big 10 hailmary begins to look like an even longer shot.

Academics do not mean **** anymore it is all about the benjamins!!
Academics do mean benjamins, big ten gets goverment research grant assistance from the government which make ten times the money that football conference affiliation get. So better academics does mean something. That's why big ten told Oklahoma and osu they weren't interested.
