Monday Musings: 9-19 Edition

Re: Monday Musings: 9-19 Edition
Chris - great stuff today. Especially like this one...
I couldn't agree more about the "leftovers" merger. No way that many schools banding together doesn't keep AQ status. They would fight like hell (Afterall, they're figurative lives depend on it) and in a world where more is more, the NCAA wouldn't dare strip it.
This "last chance league" would do everything in it's power to remain relevant - like adding independents, extra bball powers as you said.
The media creation of the symmetric four 16 team conferences seems tough to complete. I can't see something like this coming to fruition unless there is unified, top-down leadership re-organizing it. Instead it's grass-roots/ organic, and that makes symmetry tough to do. If the big 12 can't survive (and I understand it's not dead yet, per Mack Brown... Haha) I see five conferences, not four.

Assuming the worst case occurs, does Notre Dame stay as a non-football member? Having the Irish come into Hilton would be nice. If so that may keep them from joining another conference for football.

If the Big East could keep AQ status, there is no reason for that conference to not keep AQ status. None.

"There’s heavy talk of a Big 12 – Big East merger. From what I’m hearing, this would be a worst-case scenario for Iowa State, which is encouraging in my opinion."
I wish you were in a position where you could publicly expand upon this . . .
