Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
Does anyone else find it odd that among the now "major" and stable conferences that the Big 10 hasn't even began discussions to expand. As mighty as they think they are I just find it hard to believe they sit back and wait for all these geographical and sensible teams to get picked off .

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
The ACC commissioner said they weren't expanding either, and we all know how that worked out.

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
Not at all. Why cut the pie more than you have to? Nobody is going to leave the Big 10 for another conference. With the exception of a handful of teams, anybody would jump at the chance to enter the Big 10. They will wait until they absolutely have to and still pretty much have their pick of whomever they want to add to the conference.

The B1G doesn't need to add any more teams, they are just fine the way they are right now. My guess would be if they don't get the teams they really want then they will stay at twelve members.

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
Barta told the Regants today the Big 10 isnt looking to expand.

If it's true, it seems more like a signal of strength that they don't need to rush into the sweepstakes. They're not going to take anyone the don't think is an ideal fit. They have 12, and they have their championship game. I'm kind of glad if they let all this unfold from the sidelines, and if Pitt and possibly Rutgers are going in other directions. I wasn't thrilled with the possibility of them joining.
But again, this is based on the assumption they're NOT actively talking about it, which they very well could be and we just don't know it.

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
And the president of Florida said the SEC isn't looking to expand.

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
there is not many teams of value to add, you dont just add teams to add teams

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
I'm guessing the B1G wants to see how this all unfolds with the SEC, Pac-12 and the Big 12 South. I'm not sure they expected the ACC to poach Pitt and Syracuse, but it happened. The true prize for the Big Ten is Notre Dame, so I'm guessing they're trying to figure out if they want to go expansion happy, once they land ND. You could add ISU, Kansas, KSU, etc, sure to get the numbers, but for the money (and that's all this is about), B1G officials want to land ND.

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
Why would the Big 10 want to expand???? No reason whatsoever. More teams does not mean more TV money.
Most people dont understand that.
"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man" -

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
I agree with all theses comments that the Big 10 is in a position to sit and wait and pick who they want..but couldn't the same be said for the sec pac-10 and now acc?

Re: Odd Big 10 isnt talking expansion
There is also the possibility that they are better at keeping things quiet than the other conferences too.
