Re: Big 12 will survive and prosper...
Lots of back slappin going on... I wouldn't get all cuddly and swapping spit until things shake out and are final... This is the state of Texas involved. The only state where 90% of the USA flags are at full mast with a state flag....the Lone Star flag...

The grass always looks greener, on the other side of the fence, but the dog over there might be meaner, on the other side of the fence… Stay in your own yard, play in your own yard! -

If they don't play along they would rather sink the conference, all the rivalries, leave some of the schools in the lurch whose backs they stepped on to build their program up, then concede some power and money to the group that makes the conference stronger and better for everyone in it.

Re: Big 12 will survive and prosper...
I don't really think we will go back to the original North, South divisions if we go to 12 teams. I think we'll do it like the B1G and mix it up. I could see something like this:
Division 1:
Texas
Oklahoma State
BYU
Louisville
Kansas State
Iowa State
Division 2:
Oklahoma
Missouri
Texas Tech
West Virginia
Baylor
Kansas
Every team has a protected rival in the other division that you play every year.

For "I", for "S", forever!
For Iowa State all the way.
Let's go! To show them what the gang's all here for,
Go! To show them how the Cyclones cheer.
For "I", for "S", forever!
For Iowa State do it right!
It's time to climb up on the vict'ry wagon,
Fight! Iowa State, Fight! Fight! -

Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Mizzou
Iowa State
West Virginia
Louisville Sky
Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor
Kansas
Kansas State
BYU
Protected rivals
Oklahoma-Texas
Oklahoma State-Texas Tech
Mizzou-Kansas
Iowa State-Kansas State
BYU-West Virginia
Baylor-Louisville
Oklahoma and Texas must be separated.

In a conference as spread out as one including BYU and Louisville/West Virginia would be, regional alignment makes sense.

And if they aren't separated, we'll just be back to the same old "awesome south, crap north" situation. Balance is key as it creates competition.

Re: Big 12 will survive and prosper...
Michigan and Ohio State are separated. Why would they want to play each other twice? Seeing OU and Texas in the conference championship every year would be a huge money grab for the Big XII.
