Conference realignment: Mountain West confirms talks with Iowa State

Craig Thompson, commissioner of the Mountain West Conference, has a message for Iowa State:
“Keep us in mind.”

Thompson said Tuesday members of his staff have talked with Cyclone officials about possibly joining his conference, should the Big 12 disband.

Thompson added that he feels Iowa State and other Big 12 members would prefer to keep their current conference together or possibly merge with the Big East. Still, Mountain West representatives have reached out to schools that might be looking for a new home.

“Just in the diligence area, we call and say… ‘Keep us in mind,’ ’’ Thompson explained. “We’re here. We’re not going anywhere. We have bowl games. We have TV. We have the infrastructure to support.”
