So, this year we have 2 of the top 3 and Iowa only has the 4th. I don't think they will be getting Darboh either. I would guess Michigan or Notre Dame. Good year. Yep. Hill and Rogers are typically the players Iowa likes to target in December if they still have needs at those positions. Good job outa ISU not allowing them to get that far.

Neither team offered Lane Danielsen, Marcel Howard, Dallas Clark, Jake Williams, Brett Greenwood, Ben Boothby, Kurt Warner, Jessie Smith, Jordan Carstens. ISU didn't offer Julian Vandevelde, Dominic Alvis, Tanner Miller, Mike Humpal, Adam Robinson, Brett Van Sloten. Iowa didn't offer Ben Lamaak, Josh Lenz, Patrick Neal, Nate Frere, Ben Bruns, Mike Banks, Dustin Avey. Honestly the head to head battles between the schools with full scholarship offers on both sides are few and far between.
Goes to show how inexact recruiting is and how big of an advantage it is to have someone really good at evaluation. If ISU had a perfect evaluator, they could beat iowa yearly while losing every head to head matchup in recruiting. You can also see that by watching all the small school players get drafted every April.
Just because iowa didn't offer Rogers doesn't mean anything just like ISU not offering Malloy doesn't mean anything.

Maybe the rag will have a story in a couple years about how the hometown school didn't even offer an All Big XII player a scholly.

Re: Charles Rogers of Iowa City West committed to Iowa State this morning
CPR spoke at the GDMCC luncheon today. He was very emotional to start out, mentioning the clubs' donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation on behalf of his Mom. He almost didn't make it, he said he didn't leave Iowa City until 10:30. He talked about how West's coach is a big Hawkeye fan, and his family "Psycho" Hawks. But the coach, or maybe his brother, said that he watched the Iowa and ISU CYdlines and that he remarked how it was no contest who a player should want to play for.

Nice grab...for a kid who lives and goes to school in Kinnicks Shadow.

Rogers is going to look pretty good in the defensive backfield with Cotton, Brackens, Lynn and Richardson mixed in.
The thing is, and I don't want to make this all about ISU v. EIU, but their fans were ragging on Castillo in the game against us, and they appear to be pretty short on quality depth in the d-backfield. Begs the question, why wouldn't they pursue a kid like Rogers?

As an Iowa fan its absolutely baffling to me how they can offer a kid like Greg Castillo and pass on a kid with ability of Rogers less than 1 mile from campus. Maybe if he was from Texas or New Jersey he would have received an offer.

5 of 11 commitments for this class are from Iowa so far. I love that. You get chances to evaluate these guys more and find some players that everyone else misses. Plus building good relationships with all these HS coaches will pay dividends in the future.

Begs the question, why wouldn't they pursue a kid like Rogers? Don't forget Luke Knott! They might have a pretty good pair of Safeties in Rogers and Knott right behind two decent Safeties in the class prior in Brackens and Cotton. Brackens especially is going to be a stud. Kid played some CB in HS and is already 6'1 200. I would bet that he starts next year at SS and he's going to be up to 210...that's a BIG Safety.
As for iowa, I DO think that Rogers is a risk. To me, that's the toughest evaluation there is...an athlete playing QB and projecting how he'll play on defense. You never see him backpedal, you never see him form tackle, you never see him shedding a blocker or take an angle on a ball carrier. It also seems to me that ISU and iowa have different philosophies when it comes to Safety. And maybe that comes from the types of offenses they play. ISU wants someone athletic that can cover, yet hit. Iowa seems to place tackling above all else. They want a solid tackler with enough speed not to get beat deep. Seems to me that if that really is their priority, signing a kid who they've never seen tackle in a game might be too big of a risk.
