Re: Charles Rogers of Iowa City West committed to Iowa State this morning
Any reason Rogers might not be looked at as a WR? (as well as DB)

Re: Charles Rogers of Iowa City West committed to Iowa State this morning
In the grand scheme of life, loyalty seems to be a waning quality. However, in recruiting I believe it still carries some clout - believe Irving had callers on him late in the process, but the fact ISU was there early with the offer was important to him.
Now along comes Rhoads & the ISU program is taking off. Iowa has established a level of success, so much so it did not have to work very hard to recruit within the state. They work the 4-rated recruits hard outside of Iowa, but plenty of those commit late. Before Rhoads came along, they could wait until the last minute, & if they did not secure the recruit an Iowa kid would be waiting. Sometimes, they'd get the recruit, plus the Iowa kid would grey-shirt/walk-on - best of both worlds. Seems like the pendulumm is swinging, & swinging hard. ISU now has 5 in-state commits, Iowa has 1. Our 'Hayden' is here in Paul Rhoads, & that statement scares the heck out of hawg-eye fans. Bring up the trajectories of both programs, in-state recruiting & refer to CPR as our Hayden & just watch Hawk fans squirm. It is a lot of fun.
I think this Rogers kid could end up on either side of the ball. Very promising.

As for iowa, I DO think that Rogers is a risk. To me, that's the toughest evaluation there is...an athlete playing QB and projecting how he'll play on defense. You never see him backpedal, you never see him form tackle, you never see him shedding a blocker or take an angle on a ball carrier. It also seems to me that ISU and iowa have different philosophies when it comes to Safety. And maybe that comes from the types of offenses they play. ISU wants someone athletic that can cover, yet hit. Iowa seems to place tackling above all else. They want a solid tackler with enough speed not to get beat deep. Seems to me that if that really is their priority, signing a kid who they've never seen tackle in a game might be too big of a risk. If I'm not mistaken doesn't he already play DB for his team. And he's been to a lot of our camps so I think this staff has a pretty good grasp on his potential as a DB.
"We embrace that challenge and what it presents to us. I’m going to approach all 12 games this way: We’re going to win them all. If we prepare and then go out and execute, we’re going to win all 12. Now how many are we going to end up with at the end of the year? I don’t know, and you’re right, I won’t put a number on it."- Paul Rhoads on having the toughest schedule in the Big 12 -

Yeah I'm just trying to tone it down until we've actually accomplished something.
However in related news, Iowa fans think their basketball program is "back", because they now have 2 top 100 recruit commits.

Sweet pickup CPR! We can always use athletes!

I agree - I do not like Hayden, nor do I want or think Rhoads compares with Hayden, other than Hayden was able to build the Iowa program from obscurity to at least be pretty relevant. Rhoads is on this path, right? (although he will not stop at simply being relevant, but rathering conquering the college football universe like Alexander the Great conquered the entire known world at the time).
But Hawk fans love Hayden, so I say this sort of stuff around them just to stir things up.

Hilarious--I can't belive some of the Hawkeye-centric comments in this thread! Do you realize how much your life revolves around Iowa?
Me, I'm just happy to get the best possible players from wherever they come from. Danny Mac tried to win ******* contests with Iowa on instate recruits, and just ended up loading up his scholarship slots with kids who never contributed on the field.
Welcome to Charles. If that 4.15 shuttle time is anywhere near legit, I think that Bobby Elliott will help you become a great player in Cardinal and Gold!

Far be it to happen when we land an in-state recruit from Iowa City who happened to at least come across Iowa's recruiting radar.
I will change the pace then. Do you think Rogers could develop into a defensive tackle?
