Blueprint for Baylor?
Putting yesterday behind us, and looking ahead to next Saturday.
We saw last night that we have a team physically capable of lining up against the big boys. Mentally, they are not there yet. The good news is that it's easier to bridge the mental gap than the physical one.
So on to the Bears.
We know that Robert Griffin is sick. Baylor has good running backs and some highly underrated receivers. They don't make many mistakes, and they're going to score when they have the ball. So how do you stop them?
My thought is we need to keep Baylor off the field as much as possible. Their defense has not shown to be a good one. We need to run the ball early, often and steadily. We have 2 running backs with big play potential. We've seen in the past that Jeff Woody can be a good change of pace. We have a mobile QB.
Our line has to man up and dominate Baylor in the trenches. We need to be snapping the ball with 1 or 2 seconds left on the play clock. Burn every second of time that we can when we have the ball. Quite simply, we don't play mistake free enough to try and get in a shoot out. We gotta play keep away. If we can dominate time of possession, we can put ourselves into position to win the game.

Re: Blueprint for Baylor?
I told people this week that you just need to find a way to hold Baylor to 35 points to have a chance in the game.
Just get two stops on D, and hold back on the self-destruction, and we can be just fine in this game.
If we're (maybe magically, by this point) self-disciplined, we have a real chance. If we're not, we don't.

Re: Blueprint for Baylor?
I assure you if we turn the ball over and self destruct with penalties we lose. RGIII is way better than what UT has and he will make us pay with TDs not FGs. Do not under estimate BU.

Re: Blueprint for Baylor?
How to win Baylor? Have zero turnovers and less than 50 penalty yards. It really is that simple.

Worst case scenario for last nights game? K state wins a shootout. That's exactly what happened. Still have no idea how to slow down RG3

Re: Blueprint for Baylor?
I like to think we can beat baylor next week, but some how I feel we came out of the texas game more banged up as a team then we were before the buy week... if LJ is out for a significant amount of time, that really really hurts this team...

Re: Blueprint for Baylor?
That play where Kendall Wright tight-roped the sideline for about 30 yards for the TD was insane. Baylor really has some tremendous athletes their team.
I have tickets for this game, so I'm going to assume that ISU will play like **** again and lose in some unimaginatively new awful way.
But just for fun, I hope they can find some way, some how to cut down on the mental mistakes and play a full 60 minutes of football.
The running game was working against Texas, and I'd like to see some more of that. Give me a steady dose of Shontrelle and White all night long, and keep RG III on the sideline.

Re: Blueprint for Baylor?
If ISU can avoid the turnovers I think they can win this game because the Baylor defense is terrible. The ISU defense has been the most consistant unit on this team but the Baylor offense is going to score plenty of points on them (they do on everyone).
ISU has been playing with fire with the turnovers and penalties all season and it finally bit them in the *** against Texas. They have to be more consistant on offense against a team like Baylor who can score in bunches against anyone. They have the capability but you can't have stupid turnovers, you can't have false start penalties and holding calls that put you behind schedule, and you can't have missed field goals.

Re: Blueprint for Baylor?
I think Al is right with his thinking. Let me just add NO 1ST QUARTER TURNOVERS and digging ourselves into a big hole early.

This is pretty much right on the money.

I hate to say it but Baylor is going to take us out back and pound us. A lot of questions with o-line, secondary, qbs, and wrs.

With all the injuries, I am now expecting to get taken to the woodshed at Baylor. I do think we'll be competitive at Mizzou though.
