Don't forget, CPR is a young HC learning his craft

A head football coach is basically the General Manager of a team. Being an assistant coach is totally different from be a HC. I have hired General Managers for my business, and it takes time to learn, and it takes making mistakes and learning from them. In my view, he has done a remarkable job in only his third season. We need to remember he is a very young coach with a huge upside, and the only way to get better is to learn on the job. He has a young family and seems to have his head screwed on straight.
He has attracted very good assistants, recruiting is strong and the on field product is better than virtually every rebuilding job in the country.
Year One: 7-6 with a bowl win
Year Two: 5-7 (near miss with Nebby)
    Year Three: 3-1 early on.
Name one school comparable with Iowa State with a coach rebuilding a team with that kind of record.

If a coach makes even one mistake, we should fire him.

    Who are we, the Hawkeyes?
“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

If CPR had an approval rating it would be in the 93-96 percent range.

I don't think many people are doubting him. He's been great so far in his tenure.

Why does he need to be defended? Is any reasonable ISU fan actually criticizing him?

Finally a voice of reason! Thank you! I read so many of these boards after our loss and feel like we've attracted fans on par with Hawkeye fans. It's nice to attract the weak of mind in hopes of turning them away from the dark side, but if they're fair weather fans like they seem to be, let the Hawkeyes have them! I'd take 40,000 real Clone fans over 56,000 fair weather fans any day. There will be losses and frustrations in any season. Remember, these are kids playing their hearts out for our entertainment - period. Appreciate them for their effort, abilities, and letting us remember, if only for a minute, our incredible years at a great university!

To the OP, there should not be anyone questioning CPR as a coach. If they are, they are not actual fans and not to be trusted/listened to for their opinion.

To TXCyclones, we already, and will always have, the 40,000 real fans. But that's not enough, we also will need the other 16000 fair weather fans. That's what fills the stadium, that's what will someday keep us in a BCS conference. You want to bowl in the south endzone? 40K won't cut it. You are the one coming off as the Hok fan, if that is what you are worried about...

Ha! Nicely played! I'll take those 16,000 spending their money, but your argument here that they should not be listened to for their opinion is essentially what I was saying. The difference is that while I don't want the fair weather around following a loss, a Hawkeye fan would not want their team around.

As much as I've grown to despise this quote... it is appropriate here.

    "NO DOUBT ABOUT IT" !!

CPR is THE man for the job... let's just pay him accordingly...

It's not like we're criticizing him for electing to take the ball first in an overtime.

A lot of people have a legit concern that 4-games into a season and we're having repetitive errors that are not corrected. Like Ggetting penalized for gobs of yards and at times costing us points; getting punts blocked, or having turnovers on kick returns.

CPR is an excellent coach for ISU; if he wants to be a great coach he needs to exert his leadership to correct these blunders.
"We are first and foremost an educational institution that values integrity, honesty and treating others with fairness and respect".

-ISU President Gregory Geoffroy; circa May 2003.
