Re: I wrote the letter bashing UNI football
Eh, no big deal. Context is everything. A joke (fiendly ribbing) published in the paper looks like something else.

Re: I wrote the letter bashing UNI football
Yeah, that was classless. I had assumed it was a hawk or uni-hawk writing like it was an isu fan just to make us look petty. My mistake.

It is true UNI has very few fans of its own. 9 of 10 UNI fans are really fans of some other school first, mainly Iowa. That's garbage, probably coming from someone who has never been to a UNI athletic event in Cedar Falls.

Me and 99 percent of Iowans. Why in God's name would I ever go to a UNI athletic event in Cedar Falls, and what does that have to do with anything? Putting on a purple sweatshirt and going to the UNI dome doesn't change the fact that a guy is a Hawk fan first (and a UNI fan second). And that is the majority of "UNI fans." The truth hurts and I can understand why you hate the facts.

When I found out it was online the night before, I called and spoke to 3 different editors to have them cancel the opinion for the Sunday paper, but was told it was too late and had gone to print. I love all things Iowa State and have my whole life, including the in-state rivalries. I enjoy rivalry smack talk, but now know it should be sent to your friends, not the paper. I wouldn't be on here if I didn't feel this way.
Dan Swaim I ripped you in the in-state rivals forum and I'll rip you here. You're totally full of it. You're not sorry you did it, you're sorry that you got caught. JP should take your season tickets away because you are an embarrassment to ISU.

Re: I wrote the letter bashing UNI football
I know Dan, he's big ISU fan/graduate. His older brother is a Sooner fan though & classless (well not really, I'm just kiddin, Mike). They are a great family & big sports fans & have coached bball in the DSM area for quite awhile... The (tongue in cheek) smack talk didnt transfer very well to the editorial. I dont like the Panthers either & dont like their AD at all (pompous & arrogant)

It is true UNI has very few fans of its own. 9 of 10 UNI fans are really fans of some other school first, mainly Iowa. You are completely right, which is why the UNI game is ranked in the top 10 of ISU's attendance multiple times including the top spot. There is hardly ever anyone that attends basketball games at the McLeod Center or even travels when UNI plays elsewhere in the state.
Your statement is about as idiotic as Dan's letter.

You're not disproving what I am saying. UNI has "dual fans." They are fans of another school first and UNI second. Considering the first school is usually Iowa, of course they would come to cheer for UNI to beat Iowa State. And don't forget the power of very cheap tickets. ISU almost gives away tickets for it's FCS games, UNI or whoever.

Re: I wrote the letter bashing UNI football
I read the letter in the paper a few weeks back and got a good chuckle out of it.

We have better basketball, volleyball, track, and, in many years, football, compared to ISU. Give it a try sometime.
