Per Fox News:

University of Northern Iowa to Announce Membership to Big 12

UNI to change name to THE Northern Iowa University

Troy Dannen, UNI Athletic Director, quotes:

1) "We can cut into the Big 10 Market of Northeast and Eastern Iowa and SE Minnesota."

2) "We are UNL, but UNI is very close"

3) "If we are going to move to Div. I football, let's move to the toughest conference."

4) "We promise not to leave the Big 12 for the Big 10, Pac 10, or SEC"

5) "It makes geographic sense."

Hard to argue with that logic.
